Here's how it all started:

 

Here is my plan for the Lucky 13 International Proxy.

 

Body: Choti #5 

Chassis: twin wire rails, fully plumbered pans, Swiss Versabracket with Brackagra brace.

Motor: Demon

 

The bracket is jigged for a .825 OD wheel to provide .063 clearance.

Pretty does not live here. 

Strength is the priority.

 

Tinned .047 wire braces and Parma oilites. There will be no gear or rear end problems.

I had a little time tonight to work on my Choti. Tinned a pair of .063 wire rails and tack soldered them to the bracket.  The long chunk of .063 by 1.00" brass is merely a spacer here.  Heck, you can still see the price tag and bar code on it !   The set of inner wire rails is cut long, and will be trimmed for proper length later.

 

I included the ruler in the last photo because I'm still undecided about the exact wheelbase and guide lead.....

Paul, thanks for the build photos. Please keep them coming. I'm always inspired seeing people's work. Can't get enough of brass, wire and solder. I am looking forward to seeing how this one develops and seeing what tricks you have up your sleeve.

I find it very inspiring to see other people's builds and I appreciate the time they take to make photo's etc, to share with us.

 

If nobody did that i would not be where i am at now and i would not be building brass chassis etc,

At first is seems very daunting and you have no clue what to do or how to start.

 

People like you keep this hobby alive and inspire others to take the leap to the Dark Side of slotcars

OK Mr. Jaaak, I'm in a "building mood" tonight    I purposely misspell your first name in jest, because you are a good guy.

The front chunk of .063 brass is cut and trimmed.  It measures 1.0" by 1.1"

Rick Thigpen taught me to angle the edges and cuts to allow the solder to pool for a better solder joint.

Dennis Samson taught me that these brass sheets are NOT FLAT, and to use that to my advantage.

How thick is that brass front plate? Is it .0625"?

Thanks! I had only gone back as far as post # 12 looking for it.   It looked like .0625" in the post # 15 photos.

I've been thinking about making a .015 "shelf" mated up against the .063 chunk, to make a home for lead weight.

But I decided against it, and made the chunk 1.1 long.

A 1/2" piece of lead will fit nice to the rear of the tongue.

Mike Steube inspired the front end.

 

BUT  Mike said, "never combine piano wire with brass rod".

I break that rule all the time.....

Plumber hinge tube is nestled in between the front axle uprights.

I like that idea of placing the plumber hinge tube between the front uprights. It might have some applications on retro chassis as well.

That hinge is not likely to break
