In the beginning (1967-68) Jaak, they were called "tilting body mounts" because nobody was using pans back then except the scale builders.

As magnets got stronger and motors more powerful, a new trend emerged of going full pan to really lower the center of gravity.  First it was full pans attached to a brass rod or tube frame and then later just pans attached to key locations.

Eventually those pans became working parts of the chassis... droparm and side tilting pans.
The term "batpan" refers to the wings of a bat moving up and down so it is an easy association.

I have no idea who coined it.

IIRC,(and I probably don't - LOL) they went from pans or outriggers to bat pans when they became wider and more ornate such as the little extra extensions along side the front wheels.

I'm sure Tony or PDL can confirm the real story.

The first bat pans I am sure were on an inline made a few weeks before the anglewinders hit. Big Jim Greenaway built a chassis with one rail of wire and one of brass, unheard of at the time, with full width pans that were angled in the front to clear the front tires. Phil Rubin built one and finished second to Jerry Brady in a Car Model race and this was the secret new chassis design Jerry took to California for the Car Model race only to show up to see anglewinders flying around the track at Classic speedway. Jerry made the main, but got walled in the first heat, removing the drop arm in the process.

The first anglewinders handled so well with just light outriggers it probably took six months or so before bat pans became the normal.

Not sure where the name came form. I think Big Jim.

Pablo,

You have set a very high bar early on. I can clearly see your confidence in this build,...wow! With the pure amount of early testing that you can do this is certainly the chassis/entry to beat.

Thanks Bob.

The rules state:

"car must rest on four wheels without the guide and maintain a min. of .015"

I don't trust O-Ring fronts to make that happen for multiple World races.

With the full plumber and independent fronts, it will work and it will go the distance.

Thanks for asking :)

Pablo,

Thanks for the kind words...! We, Jairus and I make great teammates as he really has all the talent and I, well I'm involved spiritually anyway! Ha hahahahahahaa.

Seriously, your entry is scary it looks so good. Reminds me of the Brawn F1 car that dominated the series when it appeared and carried Button on to a Driver title before the others could catch-up! I won't say it again but you have done yourself well by having so much fun.

Yeah that was a great F1 car.
It was the reason Honda F1 was doing so bad as they where putting all there effort into the "next" year car only to pull the plug on it that year.
Mr Brawn knew what they created there and hence the reason why he "bought" the team etc,
