Twelve racers showed up for a Motown Showdown in Lincoln Park Michigan as the Michigan Retro Racing Association held our third event of our 2012-13 season at Downriver Speedway and Hobby.
We had a race director failure right off the bat as Nelson did not program the Trackmate scoring system for European rotation. Some quick decisions were made and we decided to reload the race but keep the results from the first race segment and do the cyphering at the end to determine the winner. My apologies for the brain fart but after an intense Saturday of H.O. Racing I was in straight rotation mode.
Up first was F1 where all the entries were retro F1 and as expected it proved to be a battle of the two Ricks as Rick Davis and Rick Sloan set the pace through the entire race as Rick Davis took the win with 253 laps to Rick Sloan’s 247.

The Can Am was up next with ten racers entered where once again the two Rick’s slugged it out with Rick Davis taking the checkered flag with some close racing in the middle of the pack. We would like to welcome Larry Langdon to the MRRA series who was able to use one of Rick Sloan’s rockets and lay down some impressive lap times on a track he had never raced on. We hope he can make it to some other MRRA races, however, I am very much familiar with how his 7 day work schedule impedes one’s ability to race. Larry works regular 12 hour shifts as well.

The final race of the day was the stock car class where Rick Sloan led a seven entry field while Nelson Swanberg, using a Rick Sloan car, and the Boogie Man battled for a close second place. It was good to see Mad Max, Mark Parker, and a Downriver regular enter the race with an FCR car. Max is the first non-retro entry in our hybrid series to date.

All in all we had good day of racing without too many glitches. We hope to see all the Michigan Retro Racers back at Boogie Speedway on January 13, 2013 for the fourth race of our MRRA season.
The track ran at 13.6 volts and racing was concluded at 5:14PM.
