Does anyone know who I can contact for a repop of the Old Monogram Midget?  I believe a few guys have made resin copies and I'd like to cobble something together.  Of course if someone has a "runner" they wouldn't parting with....Let's talk!

Thanks in advance guys.

The Monogram Midget 1/24 slot car is different than the ones shown above.

EJ's Hobbies in Michigan was making nice injected plastic copies of these bodies with their own chassis and running gear.

EJ's Midget

As for me I'd like to get the body kits seperately and use original running gear but these have not been offered yet.

Thanks Gary,

I've haven't been able to complete an order with Ed for a long time (long story) so I'm looking for alternatives.  I was hoping someone here had one or knew where to get a Mono repop of some kind.  The re-released kit by Monogram is NOT an option.  It WAY too big and not easily convertable to a slot car.

The two I posted are 1/25 scale and I was told it is compatible.

It is not the big 1/20 scale one; that is too big.

Don't think so.

You are thinking about an earlier kit that Joe mentions.

If anything, the new kit is too small.

Right!  I thought he was referring to the early or mid 90s reissue that is about 1:18 scale.  The current Revell(?) offering looks a bit smaller than the original but I could work with that if I had too.

That current offering is too small to use the chrome sprue to restore and old car.  It's also too narrow to fit the original chassis and 13UO motor under.  I've been trying to get EJ's to sell the a half dozen of the chrome sprues from his midget kit for years with no success.  He insists I have to buy the whole kit and throw everything else away :-(  Looks like I'll have to wait until I retire in 5-10 years time and time to make my own copies.

I just read the tale of woe EJ's had dealing with manufacturers in China.  No wonder he couldn't supply midget sprues.  I'll contact him again and see if the situation has changed now that he's getting everything made in the states.  Those repro midgets look like bargains at $80 ea, but it would be a shame to bin 90% of it just to get the sprue.

Paul, if I can get the sprues on their own, then I'll see what I've got that I can part with.  I'm pretty sure I've got 5 cars sitting in a box waiting for sprues so I can restore them.  If you want to do you own chrome bits using wire etc (paper clips are great for suspension arms) then let me know and I'll see if I can find a project for you at a reasonable price.

Regards,

Steve C

Awesome Steve!  I'd certainly be interested in whatever you'd care to part with.  Let me know what you have and we can take it from there.

Ed confirmed that he will not be selling either the sprue or entire midget body kits separately from the complete car kit.  It means that to finish a car, you either scratch build the chrome parts, or buy a complete kit for $80 from EJs, remove the chrome, and use the rest for something else or sell it on.  I might be doing that myself soon.

Anyway, I had a look through my projects and I think I found something for you Paul, so check you PMs.

Well,  thanks to Steve and I think maybe Rich, I am well on my way to being able to run a few midgets on my small routed layout.  I want to introduce midget racing to the guys in N.Y. so I'm hoping these builds go well.

Besides the "starter" project from Steve, I've been able to source another couple of body/driver kits and at least one suitable Monogram F1 chassis!

I really appreciate the help getting this project off the ground and it would have been a much harder task without Steve and Rich so thanks again Fellas and happy new Year!!!

I just confirmed with Ed at EJs that he's no longer offering the Midget kits for sale until maybe the summer/slash spring.  So, if anyone has an EJs kit for sale/trade finished or not, let me know.

Mr. Quick,

I have an EJ's midget for you. I just need a bit more time to dig it up.

I also have the pewter bumpers, exhaust, hair pins,  and trim kits, that were made to fit the midgets.

In New Hampshire we don't call them midgets, we call them, tiny people, or tiny cars.

Just teasing! :)

I love the Sportsman! Sweet!

Yup, Steve is right on point about the new Revell Model.  It's too small, narrow and fragile in my opinion to convert to a slot car. The plastic used is pretty thin and I don't think it would hold up to well.

The body kits from "Big Donkey Resins" are far more suitable for slot car conversion.  Not to bad on the wallet either at $18 usd a pop. It's a 10 piece kit w/ driver, exhaust, intake, body and steering wheel.  I'm using an 1/32 atlas chassis and an original Monogram F-1 chassis to motorize two of these kits.

Rich, I'm certainly interested in your EJ's kit and the trim pieces so please keep me posted on what you find.  I'll let you know when my lil' Greenie arrives.  Again, Much Appreciated!!!!

You and Steve are proof positive that slot car guys are the best! (Except PDL of course, lol)

Thanks,

Paul

Here are a few of the Midgets I'm finishing up.  The red #11 is an EJs kit I just finished.  The green one is an original Monogram hot shot and the blue model is from Bigdonkey resins, that is sitting on a 1/32 Atlas chassis.

The other red one is an ebay purchase and I have one more Midge on the way from Steve in Australia.

The crappy red/white one is another ebay purchase (cheap) that will require some work but should decent when I'm done.

Love to hear your thoughts...

Hi Steve,

Here's what I've done with the "Project Midget" so far.  I also have a nice set of original decals on the way from Electric Dreams.
