It's a Pinewood Derby car!!!

Made by Scott Watts of Brandon, MS.

I call this car The Speedster. It won first place in a national Pinewood Derby Car design contest sponsored by Dremel and Lowes back in 2004. As a result, My son and I won a trip to Lowes Motor Speedway for the 2005 Allstar race. It, and my son, Hunter Watts were also featured in several full-page Dremel advertisements in various magazines.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

They made it out of the regulation Pinewood Derby block of wood, Billy, which has these dimensions: 1-3/4W x 1-1/4H x 7L inches, offset 1/8 inch deep axle slots, with a wheelbase of 4-3/8 inches.

I snagged these pics from Facebook and made sure Scott was OK with them being re-posted here.

From his reply to me:

Thanks for the compliments. I don't mind you showing it there at all.

A lot of hours went into building that little block of wood, and we actually had to build it twice, because a corporate Dremel employee accidentally knocked the car out of my son's hands during a group photo at the 2005 Allstar race. The car hit the asphalt and shattered. Several parts had to be completely remade. Other parts were badly gouged or scratched, and the car had to be sanded down to wood, and repainted in order to bring it back to life for the advertising photos that were shot a few months later.

Angel wings for steering wheel spokes! I'm gonna see if I can find one of those for my pick-up truck.

Sharp car!
