First foray into the Mid-South USRA

The track turned out to be a Windsor in excellent shape. Upstairs they have a nice 1/8-mile drag strip but my drag box is so big I would have needed a Sherpa guide to bring it up the stairs.
I'm not sure I'd say I raced; participated is more apt. Racing 4-inch NASCAR, GTP, and Dirt Track modified cars quickly taught me that the track is both fast and at times tricky, especially if you have missed the set-up. The normal group of Mid-South racers showed up, went fast, had fun, and bench raced with the best of them.
The owner worked hard to insure a good race and has promised that next year, the track's tenth year race will be special. I believe him and will be back for that one.

Was talking to Mike a couple of weeks ago about some tracks in NC, as my wife and myself have a VERY good chance of moving to the Winston-Salem area. Looks like W-S, Concord,Ashville, Franklinton and Mooresville have some really nice tracks.

What is not readily apparent is that Rock Hill SC is just south of Charlotte. We have a very nice 220 Engleman & an interesting breakout format for racing which allows me to run my retro cars alongside everyone else's stamped steel cars
BTW Mooresville is Gone

Hmmm, too bad about Mooresville. Wonder where the tracks went?

I raced on Dave Mader's track in Mooresville back in the early 90s. Infact the day we had our Mid-Atlantic race Kenny Wallace (Rusty's brother) stopped by and raced with us in 4.5 Scale Hardbody NASCAR. I raced in the INT15 race on sunday and the race took almost 4 hours to complete. Track calls every 3-4 laps. That old Paperclip wasn't made for winged cars with lots of glue.
I doubt if the tracks at the recently closed Race City were also seen at Dave's facility. As I understand, they are still for sale, a blue king, 95' tri-oval and very small, flat hill climb.

It was great having you, Mike. Clearly you were acclimating yourself by the time you ran in the last race. Lyon's raceway is clearly the shortest fast-track on the schedule and many are licking thier wounds from unavoidable carnage. Looking forward to seeing you vie for a podium position in the near future!
A great Hasse King Cobra is next. You're sure to enjoy that circuit!
