Or as Ben Kernan would call it - A :Pinched Baby Blue King :victory:

I built a 155' Blue King that was 22 x 48' in '04.  I built a Mini Boola King in '09 (8x18').  Now it's time for the mid size version which I'll call the Baby Blue King.  12 x 25', 6 lanes @ 4" lane spacing.

Track will be in operation late next week @ WHEELS, AJ, AZ.  Break in race Saturday, Feb 23 @ The Shindig :yahoo:

I'll post another pic when it's painted next week.

You are going to need one skinny dude to marshall the deadman. :shok:

Appears to be a masterful build. The Dead Man, Finger, and 90 look to be about the same as a full King.

NO-- the marshall will be on the back straightaway!  Everything will hit the outside wall--and it's 6 lanes so you should be able to reach over and put the car back on!

Thank you Don.  I'm trying as best I can :)  I like a bit of a banked 90 though and it's going to be tough with the tight radius.  OMG I may have to go flat...

Mike, it's going to be at the San Diego County Fair this year, come have a run ;)

Tim, may need a bit of a protective barrier at the dead man which could inhibit access some.

Here are some pics of the finished track.  There were some difficult points but I'm pleased with how it came out and it runs good.

I installed it with help from racers and finally had it ready to run about 2 PM Friday.  We raced Womps that eve.

And had a monthly Shindig Saturday ;)  8 races including 2 HO!

And I'm curious as to how the driver's stations are laid out. I notice there's one located on the lead on. Which lane is that?

Hi Bob,

Here's "My Room" the track needs to fit in:

Workshop-029.jpg

This is the room layout and the "envelope" or space the track needs to fit in:

HomeTrackEnevelope-0001.jpg

My buddy Rodney had an idea for a hill climb style track. He pushed it out to two of the walls but I've decided I need to keep it within the "envelope" I show above:

track-3-0001.jpg

My old and much missed home track, Eddies Slot Car World, has a lane spacing of 4 1/2" with 5 1/2" to the inside and outside walls. That's a lot to fit in a small space so I was wondering about a 3 lane track?

I'd love to hear any ideas you have for my space :) !

Thanks Bob!

DC. I will c what I can come up with when I have time. Kinda busy and I'm preparing to do my summer events which start in May and run thru Fall.

May be able to get 4 lanes in 9x19' with the lane spacing u seek. Have to sketch.

I'm not personally in favor of the type Hillclimb u have as it doesn't have a donut which would help equalize lanes. IMO.

One thing to consider about these smaller than commercial type tracks. Slower speeds happen since u don't have the wide turns and longer straights of a commercial tracks. One should consider running lower voltage to make the experience more enjoyable. I am running 11v on the baby blue. And I run the track absolutely DRY. No sticky. Have been using the recipe from SoCal Barney, "love juice" which works excellent for about 5 years now.

My point that I'm trying to make I'd that lane spacing matters more with greater speed potential on any given track. I like tight lane spacing but that's just me ;).

And Brian. I was contacted last summer from a racing clothing store in FL about a "Suzuka" style track but after I drew several layouts they dropped the idea. Methinks the $5000 delivery fee was over the top.

I'm a BIG FAN of 3 lane tracks especially for home use!  4" lane spacing is fine also--because as Bob points out above--without the large areas--your speeds are slower than on commercial tracks.  But that is RELATIVE!! The smaller tighter tracks SEEM faster!! And 3 lanes allows for lot's of great racing--and saves a lot of space!  Dennis Samson has a wonderful little 3 lane track that we really enjoy racing mostly 1/32 cars on.  Bob can do it-- 3 lanes will save you a lot of space and still give you great racing.  Go for it!!

Bob,

Where in the state was that ?? there's nothing south of melbourne (a 4 hour drive north).

I've taken to rc as the only practical choice for now, but if a track opened up in the fort lauderdale area, i'd be on it like stink on *****)  :)

I look forward to your ideas when you have time Bob....Thanks!

A few things you should know.....I most likely won't be holding any races on this track. I'm much more of a "builder" than a "racer" and so far, here in Douglas County, Oregon I haven't  found any others interested in vintage car building.

I could probably get buy with a one lane "test" track but I thought 3 lanes would at least give me the option of running with others.......maybe........someday.........So equal lap lengths for the different lanes aren't that important as a fun to drive track that "flows" and allows the driver to get into a nice "rhythm". :)

Since I had to leave my beloved commercial raceway (Eddie's Slot Car World) behind I would like to have my own little "Mini" commercial style track. There I can test and tune my cars and record their lap times.

Rick, you have Cruisin Bob make that a four lane (so it fits in your smaller space better), and I might just have to move to Oregon. :shok:

Then you'll have someone to build vitage cars with... :D
