The Scratchbuilding Game
By Raymond E. Hoy
as published in Model Car & Track - June, 1967
This rather lengthy eight page article includes a review of parts, supplies and tools generally available in June 1967, but also presents an example of how to scratch build a simple chassis using those parts, supplies and tools.
The "target audience" for this article was serious local-raceway slot racers looking to move up to the higher performance world of scratch built chassis. There were however a few slot car hobbyists who saw the discipline of designing and scratch building a slot car chassis as a hobby in itself.
