It was a good day for retro racing in Lincoln Park Michigan as 8 retro racers made their way to the Grandstand Track at Downriver Speedway. Racers and spectators alike were once again looking forward to the Rick vs Rick showdown and they did not disappoint anyone.

First up was retro F1 with 7 entries where Rick Davis pretty much lead wire to wire as Rick Sloan had some gear trouble while Greg VanPeenen and Nelson Swanberg were in a close battle for that last podium spot with Greg prevailing.

Next up was the Can Am race with 8 entries. Once again Davis and Sloan were battling it out. Going into the last heat Sloan was about a 3/4 of a lap ahead but was finishing on white lane while Davis was finishing on the much faster blue lane. Overheard in the discussions between racers before the start of the heat was “Advantage Davis.”

JB was fast to want to charge spectators 5 bux a head to watch this epic battle between the titans of Michigan retro racing. In the end the Davis mill was fading and some traffic cost him time as Sloan prevailed 256 to 255. Once again VanPeenen and Swanberg were battling for the last podium with Greg prevailing 247 to 246. Handshakes and congratulations in the spirit of good sportsmanship were shared by all. Folks this is good racing. Davis and Sloan are pushing us all to up our games.

The Trackmate timing system performed flawlessly with no glitches while yours truly was acting as race director.  It was a set it and forget it day. The only glitch of the day was some braid coming up on a short section of orange lane on the lead on which JB was all over on the repair and we were back racing in a just a manner of minutes.

A big thanks to Mike Kryk for volunteering to marshal for us in the F1 and stock car races.

We raced at 13.7 volts starting at 12:37 PM with racing finished 5:03 PM. We hope to see all the Michigan retro racers at Boogie Speedway for the final event of our season on April 14th 2013. Doors open for practice at 9:00 AM.
