Maybe I could get metric shims.

I think that I would mark the shims with the finished tire size, but hey, that's just me.   :)

That was just a demonstrator shim. LOL

Maybe I could get metric shims.

In the case of the 3/4mm, something like K & S .025" with some tape on the bottom might work.

For 2 MM, I'm pretty sure K & S now sells brass strip in that thickness.

How about using a set of points feeler gauges?....a whole set can be purchased for about $3.00 at the auto parts store and they are as precise as you can get with as many different thicknesses as you would ever need.

I have a smaller set about 2 inches long that I keep in my slot tool box that might be handy to use under the stop.

Pull out the one(s) that you need from the pack and label for the desired tire diameter...??? Just a thought....

Yeah, Mike.

I bought a set from AutoZone today, for $6.99,  that looks a little shorter than what Ray posted.

They are approx. 1/2" wide, same as the K & S brass pc. in post #99.

I have a set laying around somewhere, I got years ago, to snag the thin ones to use to "slice"

the back motor solder joint, when taking out (mostly) cobalt motors.

Thinking about it, using them would be a good alternative for "normal" tire truers like Hudy's, if you didn't have a Knob Job,

or if you have an old WrightWay, like I do.

Like with the Backtrack, lock your hard stop at the smallest diameter you think you'll ever use, and add shims for the bigger diameters.

This method would be endorsed by JK Jerry, " Good for business". :D

I know I would forget and true that nice new pair of retro tires down for my eurosport car.

Here's the reply, word for word, from top Eurosport racer, Herman James, when I asked him how his 2 True was.

Great product.

Not a commercial tire cutter.

But great for re-truing and fine tuning which is what I initially wanted.

I can re task my power supply now.

I did remind him with the coarse drum, large diameter donuts cut quite quickly, especially with some larger thickness, smaller circumference

belts (O-rings) that be purchased at your better hardware stores.

Geary came by to bring some jigs and brackets (the next batch of 2 Trues are about a  week away), and play slot cars.

So I took advantage of the extra hands show how my 2 True, with an optional $26 coarse wheel on one side, and the "stock" finer wheel on the other side,

is making my life easier making my RTR BB fronts, with having to cut down my super-hard rubber, down from about an 1" in dia.

I don't think we'll get any Oscars for cinematography, but here you go:

Mike,

Is there any reason you don't do two at a time?

Mike,

Is there any reason you don't do two at a time?

Because I was doing production work, with 2 different grit wheels, cutting an approx. 1" dia, super-hard donut down to about .770",

not trimming a set of .835" out of the tube tires, to .820" or some other similar dia.

I added some additional text in that post #112, to indicate what I'm doing , without having to click on to the movie.

Mike,

I meant Two at a time at each side. I thought with a narrow front this would be possible.

Any plans for an AC single ?

While the axle stubs are way longer than a Hudy, they aren't nearly long enough for 2 of my BB fronts, or even JK fronts.

No plans on an AC single.

With all the heavy duty parts on the 2 True, like the 3/8" dia. drum shaft, a single, while saving space, would only save about $30-$50

on the price.

While I had it "apart", to try a coarser wheel, to do the rough cut on my super-hard BB F1 fronts,

I thought I would take a quick pic to show the nice knurling on the drum that holds the sanding band so nicely.

To take off an old band, expect to have to unroll it at the seam/ ruining it.

But if you're putting a new one on, it's probably because the old one is shot.

IOW, if you plan to change grits, invest in the $26 for the replacement drums, and you can quickly

flip from one coarseness to another, with a quick turn of a set-screw on each drum.

The new band pressed on perfectly.

Thanks to all for their patience, while Geary finishes up batch #3 of these.

This is my 1st tire truer and like that insurance ad says "it's so easy a caveman could do it". It's simple to use and very convenient not have to hook up to a power supply. Really happy with its performance.

Do you see a performance improvement, as far as lap times, or does the car just run smoother ?

Mike,  Is the backlog finally cleared on this device?  It there a posting with the device and all it's options posted some where?  I went there the 5 pages but only found parts of information listed, I was looking for a completed option list for this device.  Such as replacement drums with different grades, different shaft options as such as setup with 3/32 and maybe order a 1/8" axle as a backup.  So I hope you can see what type of option list I'm looking for along with how long the wait time is currently.

Thx Gus Quist

Gus,

Unfortunately, demand has exceeded supply.

The last batch of 10 I got in was woefully oversold.

I'll keep people informed on availability, but the guy helping Geary with some of the machining was a retired engineer at Seagate, who was informed by them,

he really needs to be unretired for awhile, so any parts that will materialize, will be stuff he'll try to squeeze in when he can.

Wow, talk about building demand. The new truers should have limited edition numbers engraved on them. Glad i got mine. The earlier issue I had with wheels not fitting on the axels were due to some old stock of BWA wheels.

Mike,

Does the truer accepts 1/24 replica type tires (Scaleauto stuff, around 30~32mm dia. untrued)?

If yes, please sign me up for a truer, 2x 3/32" axles, 2x 3mm axles and 1x 1/8" axle.

Regards,

Ary.

- Just noticed the last post from June 2014 ... any info on how to obtain this truer will be appreciated, it would be used communally by our club members.

You better PM Mike Swiss directly. Not sure if the truer is still available but I use it for Scaleauto 1/24 tires. Works great.
