I have spent a few enjoyable hours at the workbench the past few weeks and have, at last, been able to finish my first attempts at slot car building.

I was never part of the hobby first time around except for the obligatory home set bought at Christmas, but have been inspired by the builds on this forum to finally have a go.

Early efforts have been a mix of vac-formed and hard bodies mounted on commercial Plafit chassis collected while on business trips overseas.

Also a Scaleauto BMW in for good measure.

With the hope that I can eventually scratchbuild to a reasonable standard, I started off honing my metalwork skills by renovating a couple of vintage Russkit 'ready to runs', a Cooper 1965 and a Black Widow chassis, no body with this one yet though although something is on order and I will post when it's complete.

The second Cooper body I acquired as a 'right-off' and which I have renovated in readiness for a scratch build brass chassis. I've collected various vintage parts for it but in this case I will be using a modern Fox II motor as it is one I have available and it will fit under the driver!!

Any way see what you think, be constructively critical as I hope your comments will help me improve on my next projects.

I agree with Tex. That BMW looks especially interesting.

Great first attempts. Especially love the Plafit cars, which chassis are you using for the Porsche & Ferrari?

Have got one of their 1/24 F1 chassis & an older Indy chassis that I will have to get round to finishing off. Love the quality of the chassis ,really fit together well.

Keep the good cars coming :)

Great-looking rides.

How was the Ferrari body mounted?

I love the 512.  Here is an image of my Heller 512 mouted on a scratch chassis.

Thanks Tex and Mike for you nice comments.

Slotstox53, The chassis are Plafit - Ferrari mounted on a 1700C Super 24 Can-Am and the Porsche on an older Excel 1300, I agree the chassis are very nice and go together easily. I do however 'blue-print' each part by de-burring, flattening and squaring up, before careful assembly.

rvec, The Ferrari is mounted with sponge rubber contact glued between the chassis and body interior. I put masking tape first to protect the paint from the contact adhesive fumes. I think this is a common way to mount flexible bodies and gives a nice supple, shock resistant mount.
