Do you prefer 64 pitch or 72 pitch gears and why?

72 all the way. Try to minimize the # of gears in my box. Traveling with 3 full sets of gears is crazy and expensive.

I have not had enough experience with 72 to have a preference, but,

when we use ratios on FK type motors like 2.6 to one, with .630 OD rears, 72 becomes a must.

Otherwise the spur would be too big to clear.

72 is the way to go. Better gear choices and smoother meshes.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Metal is dead. They are slower and tear up the track. Through them out and move on.

Depends...  On my C-Can cars I run 72p. On my Hawk7 powered cars I run 64P and my Eurosports run 80p.

I used to run 72p on the Hawk7 cars but decided to try the narrow JK 64p gears. Since going to them I've had better lap times. On these cars drag plays a big part in lap times so having perfect gear mesh is very important. Also, the amount of drag on the gear is very important. The narrow JK gear really helps in this area IMHO.

I run 72p on my C-Can cars as the gear ratio's are what I look for in these cars more than limiting drag. same thing on the eurosports. Gear ratio dictates the pitch more than anything else.
