Posted for Nancy...

My name is Nancy Ebersole and some of you might have known my husband, John Ebersole of John's Slot Car Garage in Riverview, FL. He passed away four years ago and I am now ready to sell the property and the slot car garage as a package.

FYI The property is almost two acres and is completely fenced. There are two eight-lane tracks in a 50' x 50' steel building in the backyard behind the house. One is a Hillclimb, the other is a modified King.

If you are interested in purchasing the property, please call (404) 909-6862. Leave a message if no answer.

The Florida racers know that JSCG is home to the smoothest tracks on the planet. Nancy's late husband John used Bondo to create the smooth seamless track surfaces on both the approximately 140' shortened King and the 200' Hillclimb; the only way they are coming out is if someone cuts the seams in the sections, so she is hoping to find a buyer who will want to keep the tracks in place.

I can assure you that all the Florida racers echo this sentiment!

We need to find a buyer for this property!

If I had the money I'd be there in an instant. That is just the perfect setup and this racer's dream, like many, is to own tracks like that and to run a raceway.

Here's to a racer saving the raceway and continue what John started and Nancy kept going.

They look two awesome tracks to race on! :D

I have raced there and they are two FANTASTIC tracks. He really made them to stay up for a long, too. He spent a lot of time making them all one piece and so smooth. Not a crack or break ON the track anywhere. The King is shortened but you would not notice it till you were running fantastic times and wondering why. The Hillclimb is 200 ft and fast also. I WISH...

They need to stay in Florida...

Opening up the discussion:

What would a corporate partnership contract made up of a whole lot of semi-rich local guys look like? No one big buyer, just many investors who'd then be roped into keeping the place going, and contractually bound to either be in it or buy out.

Well?

Duf, that does not exactly sound like a sound investment philosophy, however, I am sort of surprised that someone has not thought about buying the place as is?  I called her to get some details but did not get a return call. This seems like too good of a setup for someone not to be very interested in it? One of my concerns would be over how well does a track stand up to the brutal Florida heat and humidity cycles? I think it would be an unaffordable proposition to keep that building air conditoned with the tracks in it at 70 F +or- 20 F and 50% +or- 20% relative humidity year round to protect them? I wonder how John and Nancy maintianed the environment in the building over the years? In the pictures the tracks look beautiful and must have been a serious labor of love for them.:)

Looks like there are a good number of ventilation ducts around the building. I kinda doubt they are for heat...

Anyone know if it's in an area that is zoned for commercial use?

Wonder what the actual house looks like? Possibly a rental to help support the raceway...

Since I have been racing at John's, the building is fully air conditioned. I have been going there for the last two years.

I ran there a few times in the Florida My Series and the AC system John had there worked well. There was not even a dust build-up on the tracks. Both tracks are butter smooth and fast and whether running in the winter or the summer, the outside elements didn't seem to affect the tracks any. These tracks have been there for several years, and after John's unfortunate death, were maintained by the local Retro racers on a volunteer basis.  The property it sits on is very nice and there is room for quite a bit of parking.

Tony P, Doc, Grant G., and Marty Stanley could give you a better idea as they have raced on them more recently than I have, or for that matter any of the GRRR racers. I don't think I've ever raced on a smoother surface anywhere running flexis or wing cars. They have been called "too perfect" by one well-known racer.

If I had the bucks I'd buy it in an instant. The area that it's in is a nice quiet place and it could host some really big events without a problem.

It was built by a racer for racing. The drivers stands on both are clear. There are some tight spots, for me & my wheelchair, that are easily dealt with and only so much room for boxes. It does get a little tight with 25 boxes and racers but the 'bench racing' goes real strong... :laugh2: ... I have never had a bad experience of any kind there with the tracks or racers. The AC system is very good and NO dust or anything on the tracks..

The address is:

12106 Edgeknoll Dr, Riverview, FL 33579

A satellite view on the google map shows the property, the steel building behind the house clearly visible. You can also see the property has more trees than most of the surrounding properties. It is in a residential neighborhood, sort of “off the beaten track”, so you are not talking about any kind of “traffic”, drive-by or walk by, as a commercial venture. It is, however, the ultimate “home” raceway.

The quality John put into building these tracks is no exaggeration. These are the two smoothest race surfaces I’ve ever had the pleasure to run a slot car around. The missing footage on the King was masterfully done to fit it (with a small extension) into the building. The 200’ Hillclimb was resurrected from what I’ve heard was near firewood condition, and almost runs wall-to-wall; after running this thing for a while all other Hillclimbs “look so small”.

The building is well air-conditioned, and there are ceiling fans; the tracks show no adverse effects from the long FL summers. Actually, it was the "cold days" (our blood thins out down here after a few years...) that used to be the “problem”, but a newer unit with better heating capacity was installed. Besides, this is Florida; you can usually count on your fingers the “cold days” each year.

Pit space is limited, but was almost always sufficient (just like a lot of raceways...). There is a raised race director’s platform, a bathroom, and a parts counter. And as someone else mentioned, plenty of parking.

As for the price, those that are serious need to speak with Nancy directly.

Now, if I win the lottery this weekend, it’s mine...

But even if you’re not in the market, or are financially challenged (hopefully not as bad as me), please spread the word! I think we would all love to see someone buy this property who is a fellow super slot car fanatic!

Thanks,

Rick / CMF3

Well, Zillow indicates that this home is not for sale, which means (I think) that Nancy does not have it listed with a realtor.

But Zillow does give quite a bit of info and a price estimate;

I heard from a local the price was much higher than what Zillow has. Around the $250K mark IIRC.

Yeah, Zillow evidently using some sort of algorithm to estimate home value based largely on nearby comparables. Where it fails, I think, is when a house is not similar to the comparables and/or when a house's condition is above or below the norm.

For example, we just sold my late mother's house in Nashville for $610K, and Zillow today indicates a "Zestimate" of $686,512. Was on the market about 100 days with an asking of $649K.

Update:

The tracks at John's Slot Car Garage, the King and the Hillclimb, have been SOLD.

Rumor has it they may reappear in New Jersey...
