Up for round #4 of the 2013 season was The Race Place in Holly Hill, Fl.

 

This exciting and unique tri-oval / road course combo was well conditioned and ready to race when owner Greg Walker opened the door at 9:30. In total we had 9 retro racers participate in what was a very fun and enjoyable raceday that consisted of CanAm, Formula One, and Stockcars.

 

The first race of the day was Can Am and we got started with qualifying at 11:00am. Qualifying took place on the blue lane and each driver received 60 seconds to post their quickest lap time. Up last to qualify was Danny Zona who put down a very nice time of 5.105 and took the pole. He was followed by,

CanAm drivers stand. Tony P, Greg, and Danny took the first sit out positions. Right to left - Terry, Grant, Doc, Jim, & Ed. 

 

This race and F1 was ran in round robin race format in order to have enough marshals for the day. The race got off with out a hitch and everyone was racing clean and putting down some good laps. After a few heats when everyone eventually joined in you could get a sense of where you stood amongst the field. It was clear from the start and many moons ago that local racer Danny Zona would be the one to beat. This turned out to be just the case and the rest of the field scrambled for the remaining podium spots after we saw Danny would consistently put down several more laps per heat than everyone else. Greg, Tony, Doc, and Terry were the second fastest group and had a great time trading spots as the race progressed. In the end Danny did a stellar job and set a new track lap total and time record with 267 laps and a 5.056 on the black lane!

F1

 

Following a lunch break filled with pizza goodness we continued racing with F1.

 

Tony P won the concours plaque this race with his finely detailed Matra.

 

The field was looking pretty close in qualifying with most everyone in the 5.4 to 5.6 range except when Danny took the TQ spot for a second time with an even quicker 5.066! 

 

 

The F1 race was another no contest type of race with Danny pulling a comfortable lead on everyone. The race from second to fifth place was another close one with Terry and Dennis taking the final two podium positions. Danny finished the race 265 laps and a fast lap of 5.084 both new records for F1!

Stockcar

 

Just 4 entries for stockcar so we decided to forego qualifying and just do a random draw of lanes. As usual we ran only the top 6 lanes to keep the carnage to a minimum.

 

Doc, Tony, Terry, Grant

 

This race Doc led the way and pretty much from start to finish and was very fast in the process. Everyone else put down some good laps without any big wrecks that usually happen on this hi speed tri-oval. Great job Doc!

Well it was another great raceday at The Race Place in Holly Hill and congratulations once again to Danny and Doc for their wins. A big thank you to Phillip and Greg for doing a great job running the race as well!
