Kind of a neat item. I always thought Bob Rule was kind of a wierdo although I never met him. Just an impression I got from the magazine articles of the day. Funny how you make judgements on people you never met. Kind of like when you listen to someone on the radio for years and then see their pic. They never look like what you pictured in your mind.

Nice!

Bob Rule was a yo-yo world champion and worked for Duncan before being hired by Jim Williams at Champion. :)

I knew Bob and the folks from BoLINK. A great group of people and they treated me like family from day one.

Bob had an employee named Rick Jordan. He was the backbone of BoLINK. One of he best body carvers I have ever seen - both R/C and slot.

I met Bob years ago when he worked at Milton Bradley/Toco Hills raceway. He helped me out with a Revell Corvette that was a real pile. Super nice guy.

Bob is an amazing, funny guy. He showed up at several of our old Tri-State series races in Ohio representing Champion, and he would put on amazing demonstrations of Duncan yo-yo skills, as well as abilities with Duncan tops.

I once saw him at a race where he was demonstrating the Duncan tops where he asked someone to toss a dime onto the floor, and as soon as the dime hit the floor, Bob threw a top and landed it spinning right on top of the dime. Unbelievable hand-to-eye coordination, and a great spokesman for Champion - as well as being a pretty darned good driver of slot cars!

... Just for the sake of "tone" adjustment:

Bob is still alive and well, living in Duluth, GA.

Bob and I are "doing lunch" next Tuesday and, strangely enough, it will be the first time we have ever met, ever though we have lived fairly close to each other for forty-one years.

Back in 1972 or '73 when I was attending Ga Tech, after some sort of contact which I don't recall, Bob sent me a letter on NCC stationary asking me to give him a call, as he wanted to discuss the NCC with me.

Slacker that I am, I never followed up but I did toss the letter in my filing cabinet and I'm taking it to show him at lunch. He's already informed me that he has no idea what he wanted to talk about in regards to the NCC...

Steve,

I will definitely do that!

I'm trying to get Bob to start posting some on Slotblog. He's pretty active on Facebook and email, so it might be possible...

Bob/BoLINK was always very generous and supportive of our local R/C club's special events, sending parts, tires, bodies, etc., for us to give out as prizes... we had a points series going every year and also a three-hour enduro. Bob brought a team up from Atlanta and raced with us in one enduro.

Parma and Trinity were supportive as well, but Bob was especially so. One of our local racers (currently a member of this board) was partially sponsored by BoLINK. I won't cite his name here, but Greg, I bet if you had asked Bob to tell you his name, he could do it.

BTW Joe, how did you get that copy of CM with Bob's sticker on it?

John,

Well, I'll have a chance to ask him again. We've agreed to meet for lunch again next Wednesday and then he's going to show me what slot stuff he still has at home.

John, I bought it directly from Bob. He had a few things on eBay a while ago and I just thought this would be neat to have.

Greg, it would be cool to have a little video if possible. And don't show him that wierdo comment.  :dash2:  But if you must, tell him it was not meant in a bad wa.y :)

Joe,

Bob is as nice a guy as it is possible to be, based on our one lunch together.

And, since I sent him the link to the thread about ten days before our lunch, I've already thrown you under the bus... LOL! He certainly made no mention of it.

I had meant to take my digicam with me when we had lunch on Wednesday, but rushed out without it. I'll be sure to take it with me next week and it does take video...

Bob taught me an important lesson.

In a previous home, Bob had a three-lane slot car track in the basement. The lesson was to say thank you when someone put your car on. It was a requirement - and now as I am older, I really appreciate that lesson.

Chris,

Your name came up during our wide-ranging lunch discussion on Wednesday. Bob smiled big and indicated it was a name he hadn't heard in some time.

In there is the beauty of the Internet and how it brought like minded people together to talk about slot cars.

Most all tell him that there are still people out there that remember his name in fondness. I'm sure I have seen him a couple of times on TV doing yo-yo tricks.

Hi Gary,

It was a Cola Cap not a dime in Cincinnati.

Chris, he always taught us to say blue please, and then thank you.

Bob and I traveled a lot together, one trip to Jacksonville, FL, we pulled a mud buggy that he bought from Bob Haines. On way back, the station wagon ran hot, so Bod unhooked the mud buggy and drove up interstate. Got a trash can full of water and on to Atlanta we went.

Bob and I made many trips and may have had a beer or two.

Bob so glad you are still doing well.

Stay in touch.
