"The Flying Scot" Sir John Young "Jackie" Stewart was born on this day in 1939, and during his career won three World Drivers Championships and the "Rookie of the Year" of the 1966 Indy 500.

Here is a picture of Sir Jackie Stewart in front of the Rover-BRM gas turbine Le Mans car at the BRM celebration day last year.

Stewart and Graham Hill drove this car to a 10th place overall finish in the 1965 24hr of LeMans.
That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

The "Flying Scot" at the Nürburgring in 1966, in formation with Graham Hill.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Saw a video recently titled something like "F1 - the Killing Years". Jackie told a great story of his accident at the old 14m Spa track. He went off out the back somewhere, Graham Hill arrived on the scene and they could not get him out of the car, and borrowed spanners from spectators to take the steering wheel off.

An ambulance arrived eventually and then got lost trying to find the hospital. After that, Jackie tapped a spanner to the steering wheel and started pushing for track safety.

Hi Lindsay,

I believe you're referring to "Grand Prix: The Killer Years".

HERE's a recap of the show on the Discovery Channel's Velocity Blog.

And the nearly hour-long show itself can be found on Vimeo HERE.
