Pretty sure it was Don Shumaker on the Wonder Wagon to try and generate some down force.

Don't think Big Daddy's FC ever had those. My brother in law, Gary Bolger dorve that car at the time and I do not recall seeing them in any of the pics. Can check with him to be sure.

Nah---I don't remember who it was- but "streamlining" was tried in the early days by several guys--and those cars had "wings" on them!! Back in the early 60's!

Good guesses ... give a couple of days then ... hints.
The type of early slot car side dams.
Short tapered angled starting at or behind the C pillar then up to the rear spoiler.
Not only for some down force but more for keeping the car going straight at speed.

The Wonder Wagon Vega panel was wild.
Very very cool ! I loved that Charger body.
You're right not Big Daddy.

Ah yes, the '...survived TMI" mural. LOL
I am going to the NHRA New England Nationals Friday. The 2nd round of qualifying kicks off at 7:30PM so I will get a dose of fuel at twilight.
Feeling very nostalgic for mid-70's funny cars. Modern fuel racing is far to corporate for my liking.

And "Jungle" Pam, the queen of backup girls and the prototype for those to follow. Do they even have backup-girls now?

NICE!!!
Feeling very nostalgic for mid-70's funny cars. Modern fuel racing is far to corporate for my liking. Me Too! No variety, or 'funny' stuff and names on the cars. 1800-2000 HP was enough, 8000 hurts.
On TV ... well I do love the Super Slo-mo shots but that's about it.

I don't have a clue Bob so I will take a wild guess - "TV" Tommy Ivo.

Good one Nate ... but no.
Speaking of wild...
Did you ever see his Chaparral trailer with the plexi sides so you could see the car in the trailer... very cool for back in the day.
Some day I'll scan my old drag photos and put that trailer up..

If it's 10 years earlier than Kenny Bernstein, I doubt anyone will get it, unless they make a lucky guess.

Kenny was just coming on to the pro touring NHRA funny car scene at that time.
Clues:
One guy that was running close to Ricks guess even though the Snake was running Sneaky Pete in his frame rails.
Tim is close by and ..... Snoopy might have feared him.
A slot car guy sat with him and said 'hey, over here we are doing this, and it works .. not for downforce, but it will keep the car going straight on the big end'
That was me.
If you guys... don't want to play this game any more I'll just say who it is.
Then you can prove me wrong. lol
It's all fun ... I hope.

Yes ... a piano hinge at the base of the rear spoiler so the spoiler would flop over if the car turn backward.. reducing lift.
