  :unknw:

No one told'em?

Fear of cheating?

Engineers ... not invented here theory?

It's too simple? A piano hinge and 1/4" grade 3 bolts in the aluminum struts.

I have been holding this in because ... I didn't think you guys would believe it.

But had to tell you that slot cars DID change the aero aspect of 1:1 Funny Cars .. before I get hauled away ... lol

I'll save everyone else asking.

Where's a pic of the car?

I can't find one on the net.

National Dragster, Car Craft, Hod Rod ... etc... I held on to those newspapers and magazines till 10/2003 when I moved to Fl. I was at a point where it didn't even matter, trashed'em.

'Waco Willie' Meyer's  TT hauler was the cover story in one of those color mags. I will never forget the day he pulled up in that. His Daddy owned SMI selling motivational tapes and the car was called 'SMI Motivator'.

Date: July 1975 at the SummerNationals is when I told him to try it. I was just sick of watching Don 'the snake' win everything .. he was too fast, I watch closely at the big end... he was even sandbagging .. later understood he was using nitrous in the frame rails. Burgin had the shot on the national level to beat him. It was a tip for the underdog. That's It.

Yes short 'wings' like that, that shot would be a follow of Burgin .. that pic would have to be like 76-77 ... see the Arrow in the other lane.

LOL, you mention Nitrous. Eckerts car blew up on the line at Columbus a few years ago and his trailer was beside my buds and sat empty all weekend. He/ they bailed!  And wasn't that why Glidden won so many races? I used to watch him run past a loss on the top end, too many times.........................

Glidden was killin'em, all the Fords were fast for more then a few years. Factory backing to Glidden, Gapp & Roush (yes the cat in the Hat) and Dyno Don. Dyno Don ran what we call 'the smoke motor' rumor was he only was running 2 rings ..  gas port top and the oil ring. Wow did it smoke and go.

NHRA controlled who would run good when, it was all about the weight breaks to 'equalize' the field. Mopars, then Chevys and AMC, then the Fords.

There are some great drama stories in drag racing .. I don't keep up at all these days ... but check out the break-in at the Alderman/Geffrion 'Dodge Boys Mopar shop in ...um... 86ish it's a duzzy.  They were on a roll ... then they didn't show at E-town for the Summers.. I'm a Mopar guy.. I was there... I was pissed.

No official word why they didn't show. My next issue of ND showed up on Wed. the story came out... it was a cover up that they were cheated up AND sell Coke, laundering drug money through the cars and shop. The break in was to make the parts disappear and the legal parts that were left behind were smash with sledge hammers. Alderman did time for the Coke.

Bob,

Like the ones shown above on Larson's car ... a lilttle longer toward (starting closer to) the 'C' pillar. It helped top end keeping the car from wagging its tail and the spoilers got shorter and the cars top speeds went higher because the 'extra' downforce (drag) was not needed to drive the car straight.

Back to the piano hinge ... check the blow over on the #39 @ 0:13 ... IMO ... that car if it had the spoiler hinged it may have not left the ground or at a minimum not blown all the way over. It never turn the open drivers side window in to the 'wind'.

It does look so ... budget teams did run the same bodies for years with upgrades like that to keep up.

I can't tell if that is a 74, 75,76,or a 77 Camaro.

Was the picture dated?

Burgin put them on a it worked, everyone followed.

I have already been called out for going off topic in another thread but at the risk of alienating myself even more...............

I too was a huge fan of Pro Stocks in the seventies. Used to sneak into the old Detroit dragway for the weekly match races. Usually on the card was the Sox & Martin's Cuda, Dyno Don's Maverick and later Mustang II (my favorite), Grumpy Jenkins Camaro, and 5 other big name pro stockers that changed from week to week. Those were some great times!

Pro Stocks were a favorite of mine in my model building as well............

Well Raisin, I am with you. The Match race days were some of the best ever, from the early A/FX cars up thru the early Pro Stock cars. I guess we are all just getting old and remember our youth. I still like Pro Stock the best when I go to a National Event. Thread drift is just something that happens and I don't think Bob will get too upset as he's a gear head too...................:)

I'll take a stab and say Lee Sheperd? But he may have still been running his Maverick in those years? I know the natural choice would be Grumpy, but..................

Gliddens demise was the NHRA instituting a fuel tech. First race that it was announced that Pro-Stock fuel would be tested for additives Glidden failed to qualify. This rule change effectively put a end to Bob Glidden as a Pro Stock powerhouse.
