Fujimi of Japan has re-released the 1967 Ferrari 330P4 multimedia model kit previously re-released in 2010, 2009, and 2008 with different decals. The original kit tooling was made in 1989 (#21 LeMans - stock number 12104) This is a fully licensed "official product" approved by Ferrari.
The decals included in this version allow the builder to replicate the Daytona 1967 3rd place car #26. Ferrari achived a 1-2-3 sweep of the Daytona 24 Hours after the (Shelby Prepared) Ford GT-40's suffered multiple gearbox failures during the race. The best placed Ford team car was 7th, 73 laps down from the winner.
The sheet with body decals includes well-detailed dashboard instrument and seatbelt decals. The “Goodyear” tyre sidewall decals are printed in gold (???) which make them useless for building this particular model. Indycals and Pattos have tyre decals available to correct this.
A color placement sheet is included for use with the kit's photo etch sheet (although I am not sure why it was printed in color???).
The kit has 120 parts (including clear, plated, photo-etch, seatbelt material and tire/body decals), The wheels included with the kit do not match period photos of this race car. The wheels indicated in period photos look similar to "Dunlop" wheels as run by Jaguar in the 1950's. Best guess is that they are Ferrari P3 wheels? Since the car was run by NART in the Daytona 24, whatever wheels used should be painted light blue (see below), rather than the aluminum as indicated by the instructions.
This kit's stock number is RS-48 (125756); it is available now in Japan from the usual suspects and costs 3200 Yen (Yen to USD exchange rates fluctuate- be aware before purchasing). This kit's price is a bargain when compared to 1:1 Ferrari 412 P's which have fetched as much as (USD) 8 Million at auction.
(* NOTE - I hesitate to suggest a retailer where kits can be purchased because generally Japanese kit production runs sell out quickly, and when you read this a "suggested" retailer might be out of stock. Use your favorite search engine and use a search string like "Ferrari 330P4 Fujimi RS-48" or similar, to find a retailer carrying this particular kit)
