Anyone who's good at it care to discuss how they do it?

What kind of checkered flag? Symetrical or waving flag look?

I've done both and I just cut out a bunch of little squares, the hard part is if you have to go around corners. For a really simple waving flag its actually easier, you just cut a bunch of random-shaped rectangles and piece them together. I did this on a body years ago and it came out pretty cool! I still have it if you want to see.

Here's a body i did a bit ago... All the bodies I paint use custom cut decals by myself. What I do to cut anything is take a piece of blue tape and tape it to a mirror (I have a small 8" x 12" piece of mirror I use). Just make sure its clean! Then I draw with pen or marker on the tape and then cut my decals that way. So with a checker pattern (since you have to cut it on the body) draw your lines on the tape and put it on the body. Get a new blade on your knife and carefully cut the pattern out.

As you can see I missed a couple of the pieces when I was pulling the masking... haha.

Man... That must take hours... here is a panel done in a couple minutes... using vinyl mask from my cutter machine. The checker portion comes with a backing and transfer tape to hold them in position during transfer. I apply all checkers at one time.

All the detail on this car is painted, done with machine-cut vinyl masking... easy place... easy pull... no bleed...

I'd be happy to cut some for you...

Check my Facebook page for some ideas.

I have been asked to do a "waving" checker set... I'll post a pic when I get er done!
