The IRRA TM could choose only one refurber to do the motors.
Josh
It has been very obvious that it has been heading toward this conclusion.
Funny thing is, if Ron did this with the IRRA LLC he would be called four letter words for it.

I read here it was OK in a thread that FastFreddie brought it up. Before that I had not even had a motor refurbed. I did a search but after getting side tracked reading other stuff about other horses I got tired and went to sleep.Woke up and drove to PJR to race slot cars with a bunch of great guys. The subject was not brought up since it has nothing to do with the days racing. The motors were all pretty close in performance. My one fast motor was a FAST ONES. Was it special? It was to me.
The top guys made the A main as usual. Was it their motors? I don't think so. Would the same guys finish
top 8 with hand out motors? Most likely.
This thread is not about running unsealed motors or custom building motors. It's about being able to take a look inside a $50 motor, checking some issues and then sending it to a refurber to be inspected for legality and then sealed. Everything else being discussed is a drift.
As far as a dead horse goes I agree with Paul 100%.

BTW......Paul,
Anyone who sent an unsealed motor in to be refurbed by an AUTHORIZED rebuilder and had it sealed has NOTHING to be ashamed of. It was done with the IRRA's blessing at the time. If done from this point on,then shame on them.Noose has made it clear that the practice is no longer legal. An official IRRA statement is forthcoming I'm sure. One way or the other I'm racing in IRRA events. In the meantime I will work on all the other parts of the equation that makes me better. I will NEVER cheat to gain an advantage. And never have.

Sam, show me or quote me, one single IRRA BOD member who stated it was legal to open up a motor before sending it in to be "refurbed and re-sealed". One of the refurbishers in question admitted it was being done, and he admitted to his complicity, but never has an IRRA BOD member said this was legal. RSVP. If I am wrong I will stand corrected.

Pablo, here is a thread where IRRA board members didn't say it was illegal to blueprint...

Swiss said it was "unenforceable".
He did NOT say it was OK to break the rules.

Pablo, silence implies consent. They should have spoke up about this over a year ago, and said, it's against the rules.

I wonder how many of the new {less turn} arms found there way into the old thicker cans. And how many racers out there know that there is a difference.
Dan, I have 3 of them and I can't see or measure any difference compared to the newer motors.

I guess you guys don't read the posts very well--the older cans are THINNER.

Jason, as Greg Wells pointed out on March 31, 2012 , referenced above by John Miller, the racers have no say... Only the IRRAtm BOD....
Guess the Fall Brawl will have a few less West Coast Racers....

Let us wait in calm & patience for IRRA BOD to set clearer & more detailed rules on refurbish of PS motors.
It would be nice to have a kind of joint statement of IRRA, Pro Slot & Fast Ones regarding this motor issue.

I'm not saying it's ok. I'm saying if I get my chassis builds right and am still getting beat I will start to take my motors apart. I didn't really know some guys were or else I'd already be doing it.
Blair,
Please don't take offense at this but you have a long way to go with chassis set-up. Noose has offered to help with this and I will extend the same offer. As long as we are not struggling ourselves, we are more than happy to help you or anyone with some tuning tips. I've been through the learning curve (which has not stopped, BTW).
Noose and I both run motors that are either out of the bag or have been refurbed without ever touching the seals. The motor I ran in Can-Am Saturday was one from the year-end goodie bag, and Noose's motor was also straight out of the package. I think we do pretty good without having to worry about "blueprinting".

To all: If I touched a sensitive nerve on this matter, I apologize. That certainly was not my intension.
Up until last year December, I had (I believe) ten of these Pro Slot PD motors, 4002B and 4002BB. I was sending only the better five or six for refurb and keeping meticulous notes on the motor performance with the Trinity machine. All motors were sent in with the seal intact. These motors had one or two refurbs on them.
When I got the motors back, I again checked the performance. Its a long story, but the refurbs from December and January 2013 were significantly down on performance and I had a certain suspicion on the matter.
This set back my Retro program significantly this year because I lost the performance that I had in my best motors. Consequently, I have spent alot of money on new motors in an attempt to recover from this setback.
