Another direction can be borrowed from our 1/32 brothers.....Hardbody PROXY races.  I am not as concerned about the specific motor, but more on the competitiveness that we all have seen in the real racing of the more amature racing of pre 1975 sports cars before the 'money grubbers'  started to 'organize ' racing.

 

Basic rules:

 

1) Pick a class:  Early Trans/Am 1965-1973 ponycars,  Recent Trans/Am  2002-current.  Sports cars  Under and over 2 litre  1950-1966; 1967-1975; 911 or miata challenge, lemans; or whatever turns your fancy and you can find a model kit or resin shell to make an interesting car to YOU.   I have corvettes of all era to build as well as trans/am and a monogram 904 Porsche to play with.  Some bodies could be a spec series if painted uniquely.

2) Any chassis. Buy it or build it. Rigid metal or plastic, or retro piano wire, brass, and steel.  In 1/24 scale more things are possible in full sidewinder with a 3D printed motor box to fit FK style motors than have been thought of already.   Mixed media can be a new art form of our mechanical jewelry.  The Europeans have shown some fun with their carbon fibre bodies and bolt together frames

3) Scale to the car wheels and keep the tires under the fenders for realism.  Most cars with 15" rims end up with one inch tires; SOME did have 13" and could be smaller. Maybe limit the rear tire width to scale dimensions - like 1/2" to small bore cars and 5/8" for big bore cars.

4) Limit motors to equalize power somehow.  While I have a stock of 2-hole Mura cans, not everyone has that option.  A JK Hawk-7/retro hawk has 30 ga wire as does the grp 11 family of armatures.

5) Concours for the entire car before the racing starts.

6) Proxy means sending your cars out for others to drive them, but lap totals lead to a series winner for the builder.  Try NOT to build a fragile car as repairs may not get done to your standards.
