I can only affirm all the thoughts of others... truly sad and unexpected. Oscar made me feel like a visiting brother when I came to visit BPR.

Always tough when a close-knit group loses one of their own... was hoping to meet him some day, guess that has to wait a while.

RIP, Oscar.

Sad news indeed. Although I never met him or talked with him personally, somehow I feel I've lost a good friend.

Oscar,

I will miss you. You were a complete gentlemen. It was a pleasure pitting your car and helping you around the track. I know there are angels in Heaven, because you are there. I will pray for your family and friends to heal fast.

I first met Oscar back in the late '80s when we were both members of the Orange County IPMS modeling club and he was just as feisty back then. It was a both a surprise and a pleasure to be re-united with him a few years ago at BPR where we shared those old memories and made many new ones.

As with most others this is one surprise I did not expect. I never once heard him complain about his health or physical limitations.

Grouch or not I will always admire him for speaking his mind and telling it like it is.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.

Oscar, may you Rest in Peace.

When Oscar made a driving error he would say to himself “Dammit, Oscar!”.  When this happened multiple times in a heat he would say “Dammit, Oscar!” each time with increasing intensity, often to the point of being comedic.  When Alex was the race director he would pick up on this and add to the fun.  It was all very light hearted and Oscar never let it get under his skin.

I only knew Oscar a short while but already considered him my friend.

He went out of his way to greet me and welcome me back at my first SCRRA race a couple months back. He met me at the track on an off race day and offered me any one of six Retro cars to buy off him at a very reasonable price because he knew I was just getting started in the sport.

Oscar, you will be greatly missed, my friend. My prayers go out to the family at this very difficult time.

To our Oscar..

To my friend Oscar:

"A Retro racer; all wheels turning
An endless race; the motor spinning
A friend to share the quiet times
A handshake and  a new friend of mine
Say it loud and lets all cheer
We are all a part of the big everything
The future, present, and the past
Move on Retro Man.
You're free at last."

I have asked Kamo-san to build something special in memory of Oscar for the coming Checkpoint Cup.

We are going to name such special chassis something like Kamo-Oscar.

That is a very nice gesture, Haruki.  Oscar took great pride in owning an original Kamo-Speed chassis.

I'll miss the way Oscar's face would light up into a smile every time we met. Oscar had his problems, especially the physical ones, but at the slot track he was joyous, more often than not. You never really get used to losing friends, I'll miss him.

Oscar always made me feel so welcome at Buena Park, and was always willing to lend a part or a car to keep people racing. I'm glad I got to see him recently at the HO Shootout. He will surely be missed. Sincere condolences to his family.

Jason,

On Sunday, Sept 29, Kamo and I are going to test lightweight SCRRA F1 chassis for the coming Checkpoint Cup.
If the chassis works well, we are going to name it Kamo-Dammit-O, or Kamo-Oscar.

Please stay tuned,
