I recently purchased a collection of slot cars built by James Rittmueller of Des Plaines, IL. The collection is exceptional and shows the transition from cars built as historic replicas and pin mounted racers. The detail and line work is extremely well done. Enjoy.

This is my first attempt to post on Slotblog. I will post more in the future.

The red anglewinder frame is similar to the very first anglewinder I built back in the summer of '68. The Way Back Machine functioned perfectly!

Wow! They have obviously been well-cared for. That spur gear on the McLaren doesn't even look worn!

Nice group that really represents the era.

And the Ferrari driver has the upper body that could slap the smirk off a Cox driver! LOL.

Great cars, Ed. I really love that McLaren. It shows just how great an anglewinder "Pro car" can look if the builder is so inclined.

Beautiful cars!

Great cars and the builder was a man of taste when it came to choosing his subjects... , in my opinion.

Edward,

Thank you for posting! Some nice eye-candy there and I am guessing that they are about mid-to-late 1967 in vintage. Seem to have survived the years well... somehow.

Ed,

Any chance you could post some more info on James Rittmueller, such as where he raced these wonderful cars, which by the way is probably the finest small collection of period slot cars I can ever recall seeing.

And, if you don't mind my asking, how did you come to purchase this collection? How did you find it?

I am only starting to research James Rittmueller. I know that he is currently 85 years old and still lives in Des Plaines, IL.

The slot car collection was listed on eBay by a third party that sells estate collections. The eBay item number was 190892346502.

I consider it an extremely good purchase.
