The Jacksonville Slot Car Club has held their first race event.

October 6, we held a Scalextric NASCAR race and a Slot.it Group C sports car race. Winner of both races was Greg Walker, owner of The Race Place in Holly Hill, FL. Bob DeWoody, owner of DeBary Glen raceways in DeBary, FL, was our guest tech director. Several racers traveled up to Jacksonville, FL, for this race to show the Jacksonville Slot Car Club some fine slot car racing talent from around the state.

Everyone had loads of fun and aftwards we discussed future racing events to be held at different locations with clubs from around the state participating. The condition of 1/32 slot car racing in Florida is getting very organized and should enjoy a very healthy future, indeed.

The Jacksonville Slot Car Club meets every Tuesday night and Sunday afternoon at Slot Car Raceway and Hobbies, home of The Florida Orange, 106 foot Ogilvie race track.

The November 24 race has been cancelled due to our home track hosting a GRRR Retro race on the same day. Our next race will be December 8. Club Rules apply for our three classes; Scalextric Modern NASCAR, Scalextric Trans-Am, and Slot.it Sports Car Prototype Group C.

This means that we only have time for two more races before the 2014 season. Get your suggestions for next year's classes in as soon as you can.  Everyone gets a say so in this clubs activities. This means you, Jacksonville. Involve yourself into your hobby and improve your skills.

The Jacksonville Slot Car Club no longer has the Florida Orange track to race on.  Just a short while back, Slot Car Raceways and Hobbies had to close their doors.  The Florida Orange has been moved far away so we have to deal with this as best as we can.  Jacksonville is a city of 850,000 citizens but there are no commercial tracks closer than 100 miles.

Currently we are testing, tuning and having general fun at our home tracks.  My track is a Scalextric Sport 90ft two lane but plans are to add steroids (long straights and super clean electric in every inch) and eventually have the same length but with four lanes… a RACE TRACK.  There are two more Carrera tracks, 30 - 35ft with two lanes in the group.  A Digital 1:43 and an analog 1:43 that are around 40ft and also under expansion.  JSCC is devoted to 1:32 scale racing as our core interest but we embrace all scales under our umbrella of just having fun.  I happen to have a large collection of vintage A.C. Gilbert Autorama slot car tracks and cars that we pull out and run from time to time.  It’s a hoot to run slot cars that are older than all the members, except me. There is even a routed HO track that will arrive here in Jacksonville this fall that is being donated by a longtime friend who wants to find his wiztrack a good home before he relocates to the big city and moves in with his grandchildren.

Plans are to have construction completed on the main Scalextric track before years end and start 2016 with a regular racing season.  If another commercial track opens in Jacksonville before then ..  JSCC will be there having fun.
