Race 10 of the 2013 Bay Area FCR Championship at Eddie’s Slot Car World.

Gary Hooks wins again! No surprises here but wait, there’s more….

The race was attended by 11 racers and besides a few altercations to the floor here and there was free of heavy carnage. Gary did a fine job as always. There were lots of jokes about how he manages to keep his car in the groove and moving when everyone else is in the weeds.

It was a victory in which Gary Hooks had to work harder than usual. With 3 heats to go Gary and 2nd place Justin Colvin were neck and neck. Then the magic happened and within those 3 heats Gary managed to pick up 9 laps over Justin. Gary ended with 247 laps total and fastest lap of 5.546 on white.

Justin Colvin has built a fast car (maybe Mike built this?) and finished a strong 238 lap race with a personal best time of 5.598 on purple.

Randy Tragni took 3rd with 231 laps and a personal best of 5.819 on blue.

Wolf Immel took 4th with 230 laps and a best time of 5.769 on blue.

A little farther back were a number of the Sunday Regulars. Eric Jan (220 laps), took 5th. Next up in was Richard Clark with 218 laps followed by Ray Villanova with 217 laps. Next in was Tyler Colvin with 216 laps, Ernie Koepf with 210 laps, followed by Jon Carr with 199 laps and new comer Ray Denny with 185 laps.

Thanks to official race director Sue Villanova, as well as Eddie and Janet Wong along with Mike Colvin for turn marshaling.

The next race of the 2013 Bay Area Championship FCR Race will take place on Sunday, November 10th at 2PM at Eddie’s.

So where are we at? It pretty much looks like Gary Hooks will be the 2013 Bay Area FCR Champion. Can Gary clinch the title before the season finale? It also looks like Justin will take 2nd place. The big fight could be for 3rd place between Wolf and Randy.

Be there for all the excitement.

Call 707.552.9085 for further details.

Points are awarded to the first six finishers:

10 points for first place, 8 points for second, 6 points for third, 4 points for fourth, 2 points for fifth, 1 points for sixth.

The 2013 Bay Area FCR Championship points and position standings:

1st Gary Hooks with 80 points (+10)
2nd Justin Colvin with 70 points (+8)
3rd Wolf Immel with 60 points (+4),
4th Randy Tragni with 54 points (+6)
5th Sam Rock with 17 points (nc)

6th Ray Villanova with 13 point (nc)

7th Eric Jan with 11 points (+2)
8th Frank Rotgaber with 4 points (nc)

9th Richard Clark with 1 points (+1)

After the main event was the Outlaw FCR race. It was won by Randy Tragni with 248 laps and a best time of 5.386 seconds. He was followed by Wolf Immel (239 laps) and Ray Villanova (237 laps). Ray put in another really strong performance. Next up was Eric Jan (222 laps), Richard Clark (221 laps), Frank (211 laps) and Uncle Gary (208) who finally fixed his noisy gear.

The outlaw cars are standard 4.5 inch FCR cars with Proslot 16D motors (sealed KEFX-2002). These have got to be some of the fastest FCR cars anywhere!

Just FYI, Randy....  The car Justin ran this month was one that he built.  Still a couple things that we need to make to it, but other than soldering in one oilite, he built it.  It worked really well on our track, but I think some changes for Eddie's, and the rules for the Bay Area FCR series, would make it just a touch quicker...

Justin got Gary to break out his "Fast" car this month.  :-)  Hopefully he can keep Gary from clinching the series next month and take it down to the last race!

Mike, you're washed up as a builder. At least for FCR : )

I thought his car was working really good and I was hoping he could keep up the momentum on Gary to the end. I'm not sure why Justin dropped back but he was tied to Gary until 3 heats from the end???

What rule changes are you thinking about...

When is Justin going to build an Outlaw car? We should be able to get Gary in this class.

I'm not looking for changes in the rules...  I think they're fine.  Our local track has different rules, and the car Justin built was more for those rules for an Enduro he ran up there...  There's still some "Tuning" he can do to that car to make it handle a little better at Eddie's...  So, we'll do that, and then see how it does next month.  :-)

I think he got caught up in some traffic about the 5th heat, and lost a few laps, then tried to make them back up, and probably cost himself more...  It's hard to make up laps with these cars...  Too slow and not enough difference in speed, especially with Gary's!

As it is, Justin's got two FCR's, one for our track and one for Eddie's.  Adding a third FCR isn't really an option...  He's got too many cars as it is!  Perhaps we'll pickup a motor and just swap them between races and race an Outlaw race or two.   I, personally, think it's good for the second race to not have Gary or Justin in it.  It gives others a chance to get onto the podium, which should be good for the turnout...  I know with our club races, when Justin doesn't race, the turnouts improve week to week...  So, we've cut back the club racing a little.

But, we'll try to get into a couple of them, if not this year, next.
