Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

It should surprise no one that Matt Bruce jumped into the lead in the first heat of the GTC-PD A Main with a 32 lap heat, followed by Ed Sohl, Cap Henry, and Brad Feuerstein, all with 31 laps. And with this line-up of driver, the racing was super fast and super clean.
The GTC-PD A Main was like an 1:1 F1 race: there was little passing as everyone was staying on. Just a very few deslots in this heat. After two down, it was Matt with 64 laps, Brad, Cap, and Edsel with 63, Preston Meyer, Howie, and Tom with 61. Duran struggled at the rear with 56 laps, as his car simply didn't have the speed to keep up with the other A Mainers.
In heat 3, Matt continued to hold a one-lap lead over Edsel, who was doing his absolute best to chase Matt down, but Matt simply would not blink. At the end of segment 3, it was Matt with 96 laps, Edsel 95, Cap and Tom with 93, Howie, Preston, and Brad with 92.
In the fourth heat, the only change to the running order was Preston getting by Cap for third. Edsel closed a little on Matt, perhaps within half a lap but could do no more. Four drivers were on the same lap at power-off, tied for fourth. Only five laps covered the field from first to seventh!
Matt stretched it back out to a two-lap lead over Edsel in heat 5. Cap retook third a lap back of Edsel, who lead Brad by a lap, who lead Howie by a lap, who led Preston by a lap. Did I mention the close racing?
The sixth frame continued with super close racing, with almost no one coming off. Matt continued to stay just ahead of Edsel. Brad moved past Cap to take over third, with Howie also getting by to grab fourth. Matt at 192 laps; Edsel 191; Brad 189; Preston 187; Howie, Cap, and Tom 186, and Duran (whose car developed a tight guide during the race, costing him numerous laps from from difficult marshaling) 180.
The penultimate heat, Matt maintained his two-lap lead over Edsel, with Brad holding third a lap back. Preston and Cap followed, both with 218, with Howie and Tom duking it out for the next place at 217.
The final segment saw little or no changes in position and Matt "Mr. Consistency" Bruce took the A Main with a 256 lap total, generated by eight 32 laps heats! Edsel came up short by two laps, with Brad two laps behind him. Preston, Cap, and Howie all tallied 248 laps, but considering position on the track, it was Cap in fourth, Preston in fifth, and Howie in sixth. Tom finished one lap back of that trio and after smoking the field in the B Main, Duran brought up the rear with 239 laps, a position he rarely inhabits in any race.
I queried Matt as to whether he had run clean, with no "offs", but he admitted dumping it a single time. Since he led the A from start to finish, that one deslot proves he is actually human and not as perfect as he appeared to be! LOL!
The fun part of the Matt-Edsel bout is that Matt ran a car Edsel loaned him! LOL!
Retro racing doesn't get a whole lot better than this... how could it?
These guys look to have had way too much fun in the A Main, don't you think? LOL!
