Solidworks 3D software can calculate the weight (mass), CofG, polar moments...

Yes, it still needs more work...

It's ironic, but your rail layout is very similar to what I have in mind.

What peaked my interest was a "Fine Woodworking" article on SketchUp in their Dec. issue. It's not as robust a program as Solidworks but it might have applications other than for furniture making.

I used the drawing of the Gene Husting angle-winder a while back. It did make the build quite a bit easier than just looking at photos.
