I built my own version years ago. I never painted a body for it. I wanted to use the modern Lancer repop of the Ferrari P4 GT but every one I bought had flaws or was paper thin in spots so I gave up. I have a vintage Butyrate Lancer P4 body but I want to save it for a shelf queen. I want to run a Lexan repop because this car handles great and I wanted to give it lots of track time.
I pulled the motor and used it in something else and here is what I have left. I hope the pictures will help clarify the articles line drawings make it easier for others to build their own version. Here it is with a vintage Lancer Ferrari P4 sitting on it:
It uses a Cox quick change guide and super flex lead wires, Russkit front wheels and tires, "mystery" vintage rear wheels with modern tires, Monogram Lola GT wheel inserts and a Weldun crown gear. Here are some shots of the roller:
I've about used up the number of pictures I can use in one post so I'll come back in a reply and show pictures of the chassis taken apart....

Here is the center section:
I used pin tubes on top of the outriggers that screw to the pans. What can I say, I'm a West Coast guy . Here is the floating pan with outrigger body mounts:
I used a piece of aluminum for the front pan mount. It screws to the pan and allow the center section to slide front to rear, side to side and float up and down:
This gizzmo is what holds the rear of the center section and allows the pan to float as well:
The rear of the center section slides into the gizzmo on the pan:
So I hope this will inspire someone to build their own version and if someone can find me a NICE Lancer repop body I'll even finish mine
Onward!

That's great Fred. It took me forever to figure out what was going on with this design. I'm glad this helped .Way cool, Rick! Now I understand the artcle!

Excellent work of course... It was unusual for an article in an American magazine not to be "extensively illustrated", so thanks for taking the time to figure it out!
