Ok I got bored with FCR NASCAR sorry guys but being a true blooded Parma parts user and believing in there C.O. I hope this will catch on.... Take a look at the Parma FCR pan I came up with. I call it Parma retro.

Taking the FCR pan modding it to fit retro F1 Truescale, O/S body F1 and many others it works great.

All parts from org. FCR Pan. Wheels cut down so clearance is 1/16 under pan to track makes this little bugger scream around the track.

The body on this car is a Truescale retro Ferrari, pin tubes added side pans cut from org FCR car and soldiered on new slim pan.

No weight needed.

Great concept Paul- love to see this catch on as an entry level class in racing.

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

If you guys wish to try this I'll take mesurments for more conforming rules for the pan. I like all retro F1 body's and understand IRRA rules but this should be open to any F1 body. Pan needs to meet the build standard for everyone to make the race even.

Will shoot photos when body is painted and on to complete post this week.

That's the idea. Fun for all at a cheap cost little rules all out racing and drivers skill.

All one needs is a dermal, solder, torch, and the rest fall into place.

Very nice, how hard was it to cut the FCR.

A small band saw should make easy work of narrowing it down.  Nice idea!

Paul, I don't believe I still have any photos, but Butch Dunaway, from Oxford, OH, was building F1's using the FCR chassis over ten years ago.   I think its a great idea to build them once again. They make good handling, yet durable race cars. :)

What a great idea!  I've thought about doing a 4" Can-Am w/ skinny womp fronts.

4.5 FCR, I cut it with a dermal tool cutting wheel and filed it smooth. I wanted to have every one that just has basic tools to do this. Even front hubs cut with dermal. Body drying will post more tomorrow.

Pin tubes 1/16th brass tube, front wheel tube 1/8th cut to meet each side of inner wheel bearings.

I no every one has one FCR laying around. I even used the front motor support and repositioned it no soldering the motor in.

I'm thinking proxy race if we can get a race way to do this and maybe Parma can supply some prizes like a new motor or there retro f1 body. My 3 lane figure 8 that's 16' custom routed is great for these I just wish I had people in MI. That would come over and form a small club. This would force me to buy a timing system lol.....

Thom,
I tried the Can am thing it works but hard to get body's to fit right. Still playing with that one.

I even had kart body's work with womp chassies. There a blast low profile makes them fly also.

Paul, How wide is the chassis?  Have you tried using a 4" chassis for F1?  I have a 4" laying on the bench but I don't want to cut it up if the 4" doesn't work.    Thanks for the great idea!

Ah... a spec chassis race class!
You know, I have not been able to get a hand with the current retro chassis, so bad I question my ability to race those things.

At the last retro race, Tracy Chin had a bunch of these 1/32 F1 cars that he built and they were pretty equal. He let a bunch of us play with them.

One of the fast retro racers was running, and I also ran laps. And I was able to keep pace with him.

So, I guess to my relief, my driving isn't so bad... its just I can't setup and tune those retro cars, lol

The only problem with using them for Retro is the three sided motor bracket rule. It's not legal.

I used a 4 1/2" chassis because it fit the Lancer Ferrari body better than the 4". The 4" should be fine for the shorter F1 bodies like the Matra. My idea was you had to keep the chassis intact from front to rear but you could brace it anyway you wanted, add pans or mount the body anyway you wanted. The reason I tried this was because FCR chassis get real weak after they've been bent a number of times and I thought it was a good way to use them instead of just throwing them away since you are not allowed to brace the chassis in the FCR rules.

I'd love it if Paul could get this going because I've got a bunch of FCR chassis laying around. When I first posted the idea all I got was negative responses.

I used a 4-1/2 chassis due to it fitting all the Truscale bodies and O/S bodies.

Guys got to say love the warm response I have been getting.

We make our own retro class not use any of the rules from the IRRA, and others. Keep it loose with no one deciding what body is legal and what's not.

Paul, this would made a good "how-to" article to publish even if one doesn't immediately build a car. I could come up with my own specs, but there might be others interested in building a car who can't. :)
