Bernie came up with this idea a few months ago and I never got a chance to post it.

I'm posting it now, so guys can start giving me some of their ideas about it at the race this weekend at Mid-America.

Without an IRRL  race scheduled in June, this year,  it makes sense to hold something then.

Rough ideas, nothing cast in stone.

3-4 hrs.

3 man teams.

No "loaded" teams, ala Retro East.

Team captains determined by IRRL points leaders.

GT Coupe bodies.

Retro Hawk handouts.

Spec tires(possibly)

Rotating from year to year to different IRRL raceways.

Racers interested so far:

Raisin Garrett
John Miller

Mike,

Check out Mike McMasters 6 hour race rules, works great.

The only thing I would add to Mikes rules is I would mark each turn marshal spot with a lane color. So if your driver is on (let's say) the Green lane then your team has to have a turn marshal in that spot. This way no one team gets stuck with the deadman or going under the bridge, it changes after each lane.

I'm pretty pumped about this :clapping: . Been wanting to do an enduro for a number of years. 4 hours would be my choice. 30 minutes per lane, very simple.

An enduro sounds like fun.  JK retro Hawk motor should be up to the task.  At the very least, it will be a good test for the motors.

30 minutes per lane - no problem, we ran 60 minute each with the plastic cars on the flat track a few years ago.

I love endurance races. I'll be in the Michigan 24 hour race again this year. Slot It cars on silicone tires.

Definitely talk to Noose for some suggestions about how to make this run smoothly. There are some little things that we found that just make life easier. After 3 years of doing this in Retro East, it's probably one of the most fun days of racing, no matter where you place.  And since the drivers are seeded and then the teams picked at random from the seeds, you never know who your teammates will be.

I held a 24 hr. one in 2006 or so.

I learned enough not to hold another one.

By the end, there was almost gun play. LOL

First race I ever won was a 24 hour enduro at the old Apache raceway in Wayne Michigan back about 1970. After 8 hours we all voted to reduce it to a 12 hour race........LOL. We ran a 6 hour race at Thunder Road back in the mid 80's with 2 hours run in total darkness and lights in the cars. Enduros have always been a favorite of mine and if its not just for locals I sure would be interested.

One mandatory motor change under green would add an interesting dimension to the enduro. Make pit work count for something. In the enduro AJ and I entered in Longmont Colorado everyone knew the Falcon motors were not going to last 4 hours. It had great impact on the outcome of the race. I think the Retro Hawk may go 4 hours depending on the voltage.

I doubt one will last 4 hrs., but who knows.

It could make a real interesting last hour.

Butch

I'm thinking keeping it to 3 man teams, even it's more than 24 guys, and just do a round robin.

The whole team getting a 30 minute or hour break might be really good.

If we had 30 guys, I would pick the 10 baddest hombre's as captains, letting Hombre #10 pick first out of the remaining 20 guys, with it going serpentine going into the last 10 racers.

As mentioned Retro Hawk handouts. Guys would probably want to buy at least 2 at first, but could get more if needed.

Probably handout tires, something like JK8713P.

One driver, one marshal, one pit guy.

Everything but sticker changes under the "Green".

While 8-30 minute heats works, I would sooner do 16-15's so the driving times would be more even.

75-75-90 vs 60-90-90.

Swiss,

I like everything about Mike McMasters enduro but some of the things I really like that really make it an enduro are.

1. No track calls for anything other than a problem with the track itself. Even if your car goes under the track and no one can get to it it's not a track call. Go find a broom handle and try to get it out.

2. One minute between lanes. During this time you are not suppose to even look at the bottom of your car even though some do. But you can't even adjust braids.

3. Periodic checks for clearance. Even when the tire checks are performed the track stays on. You have to stop at a certain point, the tech man picks your car up and checks the clearance. If it doesn't clear he hands it to your pit man to change tires. When the tire change is done he hands it back to the tech man to make sure it's legal and then the tech man puts it back in the slot.

A few years ago Paul Martin, Jeff Smith and myself were in the 6 hour enduro at Tom Thumb. We lost a motor early in the race and by the time we got back in we were about 50 laps down. Our new motor started slowing down and we went another 10 laps down. Paul sprayed some Pure Motor Spray in the motor and it started coming back to life. All the other fast teams had problems, mostly bent chassis and we slowing came back and won the race by about 20 laps. That's what I like about endurance racing, it's not over until it's over because anyone can have problems with their car. If you jump the slot and go into someone elses slot you are at their mercy.

I like the idea to use Retro Hawk motors. Since we don't really know how well they will hold up it just adds another dimension to the race.
