The Parma Checkpoint Cup Friday races featured Anglewinder Coupes on the flat track, Retro 1/32s on the Kingleman, and RetroPro on the King.

In Coupe Bryan Warmack JUST edged Duran Trujillo by about half a lap, with Jerry Johnson not far behind.

In 1/32 Duran ran away from Matt Bruce in second and Bryan Warmack in third...BUT...

The race of the day was RetroPro. Just about everything that could have happened did and going into the last heat Matt Bruce had about a two-turn lead over Alex Freund. They swapped leads a couple times in an intense battle all heat and when the flag dropped...

P1040721.JPG

Matt on yellow nipped Alex by less than an inch!! FANTASTIC race and congrats, Matt!! Tracy Chin ran a strong third.

Can-Am tomorrow....

The lead changed about a dozen times in the last heat. Matt had a damaged gear and had slowed slightly. With 9 seconds to go Alex was ahead and his car kicked out just a tad coming out of the donut allowing Matt to get ahead again. There was a huge reaction from the crowd as Matt jetted into the lead... Alex started closing again, but would have needed about another second to have passed Matt again.

Congrats to Matt and Alex for the closest finish I have ever witnessed. Just fantastic!

I tech-ed 57 Can Am cars this morning. Nearly all passed without issues, save for a handful with "thin" bodies, measuring as little as 3/1000th in places, and at most 5/1000th in their thickest areas... John Cukras made the guys with those to add tape to thicken the body in places.

Terry Schmid blew 3 motors before he figured out that his pickup was shorting out. Voltage on track was 12.9, and speeds are fast. I saw guys doing 4.1" on RED!
Qualifying is going on right now but I am back home, will return tomorrow tom tech F1 cars.

I'd have to rank Matt up there as possibly the best there is today. While there are VERY good racers on both coasts and in between, the fact that Matt has taken his A-game on the road from coast to coast and performed at the top level everywhere he goes leaves him with few peers with similar credentials. Gorski's done it also in the recent past.

A 4.1" puts you in the "A" and a 4.2" puts you in the "F"!!!  :shok:

Yes, definitely we have a motor problem here.  :heat:

You have a motor problem when someone has to buy twenty motors to find one that will make the A Main. :dash2: And thinks he may need ten more :shok:

Oops! I left Mr. Ursaner out of my summation earlier. THAT boy is always near the top and has criss-crossed the country since retro got started also. Looks like a barn-burner of an A-main in the works!

Whoa! I just looked down through that list of entries. The East is well represented... WELL represented! Good luck to all!

Well it's interesting that the "fast guys" seem to have 4 or 5 motors that will go FAST!! So it's got to be more of a "tuning" / handling problem as well!! With so little time difference between the A to the D mains--it's a minute setup difference that allows the car to go "fast"!

She's real fine, my 409!!!

I bought 5 motors today for the cars I readied for the King track race. Tore Anderson, Howie Ursaner and myself all made the main with these motors. I haven't tried the other 2.   :)
