Modified a Cox 3840 brass tube chassis with Cox Gurney style mounts & AMT body. Now I just have to score a nice set of Ulrich stocker rims for a little bigger tire.

First class. Really nice and clean! And a great use of the Cox sidewinder chassis.

Nice build ! Just this morning got the 63 kit in the mail - I love Galaxies.
How well does that chassis / set up and the similar Cox stocker run ? I've read the Cox car doesn't handle at all well but can't imagine many people run them all that hard now given the value - your thoughts ? Any tweaks ? Know you've done a couple...

Nice,
Good luck getting the Ulrich rims. They are scarce and don't come cheap. I've been trying to get some for years.
That's one of many Dan Gurney cars on my (long) list to do.

Thx guys .....This is a good site for Riverside pics ... a lot of photos you won't see anywhere else. I'm sure they are very stringent on copyright protection of the pics as that is their business, selling them.
I've got a set of Deluxe Ulrich wheels still in the pack, I need someone to come over and tear them open when I'm not looking, though would be shame to paint black over the nice chrome.

Since some of my fellow racers are offering their vintage Galaxie stories, I thought I'd briefly chime in...
My dad bought a four-door baby blue '64 with the 289. Three years later, I accompanied him to the Memphis Ford dealer to pick up our new two-door, candy apple-red fastback with the black vinyl top and a smooth 398. When I reached high school, I took possession of that shiny red bullet, as it became my means for getting to and from school each day. Needless to say, I had the best looking -- and fastest -- car on the lot.
Great build, Rich. It brings back the days of real car racin'.

My father also had a 64 Galaxie XL he bought new, white/ red interior, it had the smallest V8 at the time ( 260 ?), I remember the hubcaps were a hot item among thieves.... This a funny clip, Jay Leno talks about going to the dealership with his Dad ordering a new Galaxie , in the first couple of minutes of clip , .

Rick, is that what you did on the Goodwood projects? NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO... Sheesh.
No, but I feel Rich's pain with this decision:
I've got a set of Deluxe Ulrich wheels still in the pack, I need someone to come over and tear them open when I'm not looking, though would be shame to paint black over the nice chrome.
I would paint the standard Ulrich wheels if needed but those chrome jobs............it would be tough!
Done right, I bet it would be tough to tell the difference between painted Ulrich wheels and painted aluminum wheels with plastic inserts......but that's just me

Nice one, Rich. Looking good!
I ran my (Rich Roberts Repaired)Cox Gurney Galaxie yesterday for the first time in months. It was a blast, although there's not enough Zip Grip on the planet to make those tires grip... I'm considering the sacreligious switch to a set of Candies!

Sacrilege indeed !!! Maybe try some of the urethanes from Paul Gage before sliding to the darkside - he'll hook you up with great looking tires that really work.

I just received another tire order from Paul. I especially like his firmer compound. They REALLY work!
