I thought this was apropos for this forum after the current polls. LOL.

HEADLINES: Tire Rules In Place For Next Five Events On World of Outlaws Late Model Series

"We’re trying to make life easier for all the teams competing in the next five World of Outlaws Late Model Series events,” said tour director Tim Christman. “By mandating specific tire rules for the upcoming events, hopefully we’ll be able to lessen the burden on teams to carry so many tires on each trip and attract more participation from local and regional racers.”

Tires have been and always will be a large part of any racing budget. In Karting, open tire rules always ended up with the entry list being lower and lower until no one bothered to show up except that one guy who finally got his victory. (Sarcasm of course-BUT pretty close).

Now with Slot Cars I am lucky to get two races (4 lane 2 minute heats) out of one set. Most of the time it is one run and done starting them as low as I can go to pass tech. Thankfully they are MUCH cheaper but still the biggest part of my racing expenses.

What's your point Rick ... LOL

Do you think that rule posted above will change anything but some racers attitudes and some distributors bottom line.

Out in the real world ...

I've been through the sealed spec crate engine programs, two 'approved' rebuilders,  spec tires that had to be bought at the track And left in a container at the track till the next race so we couldn't soak them at the shop.

Guess what, it's who you know and "how much money you got".

From $5500 GM motors to $15 Chinese motors ... same crap, different scale.

But! at least your stuff wasn't obsolete every time the wind changed direction. We deal with it or move on.

Bob, no rules on doping tires in slot cars. LOL (YET!)....

Crate motors, that are cheap $5K, but another $5K to send out to an approved rebuilder to be made better. Nothing different than than our world.

Here's your quote: "Guess what, it's who you know and "how much money you got". Things that make me go hummmmmm.

Just yesterday, I was told that I am on the outside looking in because I don't play ball right... hahaha

Mike,

From where I sit motors and bodies.

Pricey tires coming in are having an effect, too.

To me... and only IMO... kits and sealed weakens what I thought Retro was about when I bought the first tonyp chassis and a few P/D's in 2011.

I'm only one voice and not even a real player so take it from where it is coming, for what it's worth.

This past weekend, the GRRR Can-Am race was won by a Puppy Dog.

This past weekend, the NERR Can-Am race was won by a Puppy Dog.

The last warm-up race at Tom Thumb, a few weeks back, in both Can-Am and F1, were won by Puppy Dogs.

So exactly what motor was obsoleted?

And I'll PayPal you $50 if the Retro East F1 race this weekend, at Port Jeff, is won by a Retro Hawk.

Mike,

I'm only speaking for myself not challenging you or wanting to bet on a race.

It's not only in Retro... locally and building cars for my son in Jersey it's worse... component rule changes are... like ... crazy.

Some classes the FK or definitely the Parma motors last longer than the class itself.

I should have looked closer that Rick started this post in the Retro category.

Yep, 9/28. One thing I'm finding running these Hawks is how much difference one tooth on the spur makes. The motor ran so cool in practice that I dropped to a 27, and the thing fell off a cliff.

The coupe motor was the opposite, 27 was the gear. The F1 motor I bought at the previous race at OCR and broke it in for hours there. It had virtually no brakes but it ran really free in the F1 and very quick. I think with all the rubber down it didn't matter, probably was better considering the track issues out of the bank.

Talking with many racers I find many like the Hawk. I'm not talking about the guys you see on the podiums all the time, I'm talking about the guys fighting to get there. The majority, in other words. Many see it as the best thing to happen for Retro. Granted, many of them do not have a huge investment in PDs like a lot of us, and they don't hang on every word said on the blog or watch Facebook.

But since these motors were introduced I see a lot of spark in racers setting personal bests and more importantly keeps them coming to the track. For the many pro-Hawk racers that watched the race yesterday it was a shot in the arm for all of them. I'm still optimistic as to whether it's a game changer, but for these guys it changes whether they keep racing.

Nothing wrong with having options. Most people in this world want to have options and not be told what to run. I think there were a few world wars fought over such a simple concept. LOL.

Anyway, if the issue is really about those trying to protect their interests because they made sizeable investments, it maybe we could be missing the bigger picture in all of this if that is the only reason. Having options is as American as apple pie, we may all not agree, but it seems to me the majority want the freedom to choose.

Coming from an occasional SoCal racer, I certainly agree with Matt. If it keeps the racers interested and coming back to race; well, thats a win/win, is it not? Time will tell I suppose.

Thanks for the commentary, Matt.

Matt also qualified with a new F1 track record. Sub 4 second (3.98 I think) with this motor on the super fast Port Jeff King!
