Fellas,

With the above for inspiration, I plan on revisiting my Monogram slot car stash and try to finally finish one ! I'll try to replicate the yellow '55 Chevy you see below using a "Badman" kit for the body along with vintgae hardware...stay tuned !

Pete, that chassis uses the "1/32" front half and therefore would be much too short. I can show you picks of ones that will work.

Pete, here is a pic of that chassis assembled next to a Badman. You can see how far the chassis still has to stretch, it's at its max stretch in the pic.. At this point its already weak. I guess you could extend it with a plate for strength. Also, be aware that this chassis uses an early 16D without the heat sinks, Russkit "22" type. Not the strongest motor but they work fine for me.

P.S. I like to use the 16D instead of the 36D style chassis for my hard body conversions as it sits much lower and allows the use of the original interior bucket with less cutting.

P.S.S. use the Red glass version for maximum coolness :)

Hope this helps, LW

Joe,

Thanks for the heads up, the pic is from the net. I have several of the correct chassis for the bigger Monogram cars in house, I just have to get off my duff and put them together. I could use a download of the instruction sheet for the chassis though as I can screw things up real easy.

I spent the early part of this afternoon digging out the '36 Ford coupe kit. I've alread got the aftermarket body mount for the '55 Chevy as well as the '36 Ford.

Pete, these are pretty straight forward. Post a pic of the one you have and I will show how it goes together if you need to see it.

Monogram Chassis 001.jpg Joe,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I got a pic of the chassis. I thought I had more than one...I have the other '55 Chevy body mount floating around somewhere and I think I also have the rear motor mount. I've done a bit of work on the Badman body already.

I'll have to use the clear scoop and try to mix a color to match the body and paint it up. I'm going to use the clear glass from the black  STREET MACHINE '55 as well as the grille, I've also got a bumper from an original Monogram '55 Chevy but I'm not sure I'll use it...The jury is still out on whether to detail the body or just assemble it as I might have when I was a kid, that is with just as the basic build ?

Now does this chassis run a 16-D or a 36-D ?

Thank you,

Pete L.

Pete, no sweat. That chassis is a good one. It is the first series which uses the early 16D without heat sinks. I would not mod that chassis at all as they are rare and what you show there is worth about $80! You will need 6 short 2-56 nuts and bolts for assembly. Two for the motor mount. Do you have the rear mount? Usually missing and hard to find. I do not have any extras but I have fabbed them out of two vintage brass mounts. I think I have extras and can show you how I made it. I do have an original rear motor mount if you need to see a pic. Sorry, no original mounts to spare. Just let me know what you need.

P.S. on certain Monogram cars the guide mounts behind the axle in the provided hole instead of in front. Depends on the body. Joe

Joe,

Thanks for your help. I found a monogram '55 Chevy slot car instruction sheet here on slotblog,  I've got a pretty good idea on what it looks like now.

I'll do a cellar search for the part either tonite or tomorrow and see what I come up with. I'll keep you posted !http://slotblog.net/...y-instructions/

Joe,

The cellar search turned up the parts needed for completeion of the '55 chassis and the aftermarket motor mounts, as well as parts to complete a Monogram Ferrari (I think) chassis and a little brother that'll go under a repro Cooper/Cobra body kit.

Great! You even have the correct red motors in all 3! I'm coming over to look through that basement myself :D
