Hey everybody.
After two years of very hard work from many people, especially Ron DeRoche, the PARMA Engleman used during the 1970's Brass Car Nats is nearing completion. Here are some photos after complete braiding and before we start applying the lane colors and yellow section markers.
The braid is .090 wide specially produced NON-MAGNETIC copper material with a hybrid Nickel/Tin coating. After extensive testing the optimum braid height is .005-.007. We have run, WITHOUT MODIFICATION OR ADDING "FUZZIES", Echorr/Fray Super Stocks, G-Jets, Riggin, Landsharks and other weighted cars with no loss in performance.
More pictures very soon.
Thanks for looking

Is that the track that was at Parma raceways? If so I ran on it at the big race they held in 1972. Everyone teased me because Car Model magazine once again mis spelled my name. They had me as Mike Ferret that time.

Michael,
Wow you raced on it at Parma? What Cars did you run?

That is, indeed, the same track. I got to see it at Modelville not long after they first got it. They were already starting to get the gutter lanes race-able. As anyone that was there will recall, you could not run on the gutters because they were too close to the wall, I think.
Last I heard, they were planning to host a race inviting all of the original participants. Scott Hebron still has the Riggen-based car he raced and then loaned to Gary Rider after Gary's car got stolen. Gary applied his magic to it and won the race!
Slotblog would be the place to keep everyone apprised of when that race might be. Modelville should be a "bucket list" place to visit for anyone into slot car history and, if this "reunion" race happens, this is a very good excuse to go there.
Keep it in the slot (and keep your "fuzzies" combed out),

A retro racing weekend next year there has been bantered about.
I do believe given a good amount of lead time we can get Gary to attend, same for Steve Medanic.
Lets make this happen!

A "classic" track! Beautiful!
1984 1/24 USRA Nats was held on an old 60's Engleman (w/ the esses...)
I miss the esses that the 1/24 Engleman had....... I now days live about 8 miles from one of the iconic "esses" ever made in a real racetrack.... Riverside Rwy.

John,
I don't have any photos of the car but Scott could take some. I have his email address so I will ask if he will do that. Somewhere, I have a scanned image of the original race report article from Car Model magazine but couldn't find it - likely on a back-up CD or thumb drive somewhere. If anyone has it, please post it on this thread!
Rob Hayes is doing a great job of keeping the Midwest HOPRA guys up to date on the progress and I have forwarded his emails to others. Those receiving the forwarded emails can ask Rob to include them in future lists. All he can do is say, "No", so there is no risk except rejection!
I, for one, need lots of forewarning of when the race is going to be because I need to plan for it. I really hope to be there!
I'm sure walls around the track are coming ... otherwise every de-slot will be a "car on the floor" track call!

Here is the article, an appropriately sepia toned scan of the Car Model article, just barely legible.
John, a picture of the Scott's (then Gary's winning) car is shown as well as Tony's "factory" AFX Super II. I don't think anyone else could buy them yet.
Someone pointed it out to me as being on the Riggen HO web site. Lots of old "gravity racing" history there. A lot of the tired, "The older I get, the faster I was" kind of stuff.
And here is a picture of the track while it was at Parma:
Enjoy!

Peter,
Do you know who originally built the track? IIRC, Parma's King track was built by a local woodworker. Did he make this one too?
NICE track, BTW!
I am not a doctor, but I played one as a child with the girl next door.

Hey Petter is this the track that the old lap counter goes to? The one that looks similar to a old American counter. If so could you post a few pics of it? The track looks great. Y'all have done a fine job rebuilding this peace of history.
I was also wondering if you could share any updates on the American hillclimb?
