Hi fellows,

I'm looking for a pair of front wheels for the Cox Dan Gurney Galaxie.

Is anybody able to help my search?

Thank you!

Stefano,

Do you know of a picture or link to the correct wheels?

Bob,

Sorry, I don't

But the wheel pictured above should be correct (let's wait for Dokk...)

Stefano, I've never owned one of these cars so I cant say for sure. I have one wheel that I think is correct. I would need to see a front and back pic. Maybe someone else can come up with one.

Stefano, can't get a great pic inside at nite without setting up the photo box. I hope these do. If this is not the wheel it is damn close. It is a free wheeler with no set screw hole. I will look tomorrow to see if I have another but I doubt it very much. I may have some other wheels that may be "close" but I will have to look. If you want this single, it's yours. Again, I will check tomorrow for it's Cugini.  Joe

Don't have that in NOS but I will look through the used wheels here for you.

Rick T, on an old thread," making a Cox  Gurney Stocker", posted  a dimensioned drawing.  of the front wheels.

 Joe,

Close enough since they ARE the correct wheels.  :)

Thank you everybody, you are kind of "Guardian Angels"!

Does anybody know where can I find the Dunlop tires?

Stefano, those are not too difficult. They are same front tires used on the Lotus 40 RTR with the Ackerman steering. If you cannot get any, PM me, I might be able to help.

Stefano, will you have the wheel copied ?

Just in case, I need 4 pairs...

I have 5 chassis and only one is equipped with the correct front wheels.

JM, remember that there's the machinist here in France, Brifou, who can copy these for you...

JM, I had them copied by a wonderful machinist: they match perfect with the one I received from Joe.

Will post some photos next week.

Again thanks to Joe for the original.

Here are the repro ones (I believe the machinist did a nice job):

Very nice, but the external flat edge should be a little larger.

Although...

This edge should be quite as large as the one of the rear wheels.

May be this will be clearer with pictures, my friend ...

This can also be seen on the pictures sent by Joe Lupo.

Here is the dimensioned drawing mentioned above:

I've had several requests for Gurney stocker front wheels.

GurneyStocker011.jpg

I made a few extra pair years ago but they are long gone. I remember trying to make mine an exact copy of the originals. Since I don't have any originals to compare them with today, I can't be certain. On the extra wheels I made, I ground a groove in the tire mounting surface of the wheel to identify them as repops.

Anywho, here's a "measured drawing" of the wheels I made in case anyone feels the need to make their own:

GurneyStockerWheelDrawing-0001.jpg

Of course you should size the axle hole to fit whatever your 1/8" axle measures out to be.

To cut the .125" inner radius I used a 1/4" diameter 2-flute ball end mill set up as a lathe tool. There's a lot of tool contact area and it will chatter on you if you run it too fast.

Onward....

These wheels should not be difficult for a competent machinist to produce.....even I did it! :laugh2:

Fellows, you are completely correct: apologies from the machinist (he was thinking about something funny while setting the machine...)

The machinist did a new batch: now they look pretty close to they original (he measured a deviation of .02").

Apologies for the pics: he's a good machinist, not a photographer...

Nice set of repop wheels for the Gurney Stocker... The outer lip looks much better/thicker.

Hi Stefano, I realize its been a while, but I am looking to buy a pair of these repop Gurney front wheels. Any chance they are still available?

Thanks.
