Scott,

How is the arm play reduced without breaking the seal and opening the motor up?

Although my name is not Scott... :o

Press the can bushing in and solder or glue in place based on your local rules. :D

Pappy, there is a post here on Slotblog about the tricks to the Deathstar hop-ups. :good:

It's a lot simpler than that, Bob. The can metal is a quite mild/soft alloy. Rest the can end on a short piece of tubing with an ID just larger than the OD of the bearing. Give some light taps on a hard surface holding the can and tubing until you get "there" and done. No soldering or gluing of any kind required.

Maybe I just dreamt  this, but I thought that someone said they solder a washer on the outside of the bushing.

They put a stack of washers between the bushing and the pinion

Even simpler? Make a brass motor spacer into a C ring and press it into the space between the bushing and the flange of the arm. Use a pair of tweezers to locate it and press it in. It will pop into place and stay there.

I've tried pressing the bushing in and the results have always been catastrophic (bending the can).

How I press the bushing in ... using no un-approved parts.

  1. Remove pinion,
  2. Hold motor in two hands and press in bushing with thumbnails till it stops up against arm.
  3. Solder in place.
  4. Remove flux
  5. Replace pinion
  6. Tap endbell side of the shaft straight down one time on slate or tech block, this will give you perfect endplay.

Badda bing, done. No math required.....
