I’m looking for a GE 3ADM 12V motor. I found a GE 3ADM4 from Professor Motor (it looks the same) but it runs too fast for my application (not a slot car). I think the 3ADM motor might turn about 1,000 RPM and draw 3 amps under load. The motor is about 1.25" long and 1" in diameter. It has a 3/32" diameter shaft. I'm interested in a 3ADM in any condition but preferably still running. I'm attaching a picture of the motor I'm trying to replace.

Also, let me know if you have a lead on who I might contact to pursue getting one of these motors. Or is there somebody that could help me rewind my 3ADM4 to operate in my system (like a 3ADM).

I've seen old posts from slot car enthusiasts saying they bought 3ADM motors and they were too slow. It just seems like there has to be a 3ADM on somebody's shelf or in a drawer.

I am also interested in a very similar motor that could be end-mounted to the gear box I have.

Thanks for the help,

Bob

Bob, the motor you show is a high performance motor made specifically for slot cars. I believe the 3ADM was made for electric toothbrushes and such.

Why not turn down the voltage somehow to reduce the speed? Just a suggestion.

Bob,

Take a look at this THREAD.

Lots of germane info in there!

You might try to contact Gary (Horsepower) to see if he has any left.

I only have one of the "industrial" models, which are not quite the same as the Dynamic version, and it barely turns over on 7 volts; I also have four others with different color plastic, but those turn a lot faster than 1,000 RPM!

We have to assume that GE made a bunch of these motors in different versions, with windings and/or mountings depending on the application. Same for many other motor manufacturers, from Mabuchi to Globe...

If all else fails maybe John Havlicek can rewind what you have.

Hey Bob, pretty sure you'd be able to trade the one you have for a slower model if anyone here has one sitting - we like the fast one's mostly.

Also, is your application that helicopter game that gets referenced once in while when these motors are mentioned ? If so, you'd maybe be able to substitute something contemporary if you have some idea of the performance specs of the original motor.

Not to threadjack, but did anyone else here pick up one of the related GE 3ADM motors that were up on auction recently ? Slightly longer with a less user friendly black plastic endbell, same mags, can, and shunted brushes though - these actually scream on 12 Volts, unlike the disapointing but visually identical motors that pop up once in a while.

Think they may have also been used for power windows as seller sold mostly auto keys and lock hardware otherwise...

I didn't get the recent ones, but must have got a few of these earlier - if I remember right (I'm at office), they're double shafted, with flats on either end...

Nope, you're right. It's the slow one with the white endplates that has the double shaft. The ones with the black endplates only have a single shaft, opposite the brushes, and yes, they're pretty peppy!

The GE 3ADM 12V motor I want to replace is in a gear motor set.  The spec on the set says 60 RPM output at either 0.3 amp or 3 amp (hard to read), I assume under load.  I took the gearbox apart and calculated a overall ratio of 35:1 so I estimate the motor is turning 2,100 RPM under load.

I'm attaching a picture of the motor I removed from the gearbox.

I really appreciate the help.  I'm using the gear motor in my homebuilt airplane to drive the elevator trim tab.

Do you have a 3ADM that you want to sell?  It can be in any condition.
