Here is all the information for what is sure to be the largest premier retro event the South has ever seen, The Southern Showdown!

The Viper Pit
1396 Dillon Road
Thomasville, GA 31757
(229) 226-4447

Schedule:

Thursday - June 26 - Raceway will be open all day for practice.

Friday - June 27 - Raceway will be open at 8 AM. Tech opens for GTC on the Engleman at 10 AM, immediately followed by Stock Car on the King.

Saturday - June 28 - Raceway will open at 8 am. Tech opens for Can-Am on the Engleman at 10 AM, immediately followed by Formula One on the Engleman.

Box plaques and wall plaques will be handed out for all classes for participants and winners. Full IRRA™ rules apply. Remember since this is a IRRA™ Premier event, F1 cars will require a .812" minimum rear tire.

The raceway is located at a residential location. It is very well-lighted, and lots of pit space. The food is always great, and lodging is only five minutes away from the track. Both tracks are in great shape and super smooth!

All of the "Southern heavy hitters" were in attendance last year, including but not limited to: Danny Zona, Mike "Biscuit" Bressett, James Merriman, Tony P., Brandon Cates, Chris Barnes, Terry Tawney, Ralph Thorne and, Jay Guard. This year should be just as good if not better! There is lots of early interest from some of the top Northern racers also!

Hotel Information:

The Baymont Inn (formerly the Jameson Inn), it is very clean and safe. If you mention the Viper Pit when you book your room you should receive a discounted rate at $55 per night plus tax. Their number is (229) 227-9500.

These tracks look very, very familiar, they were up here in Nanuet, NY. The untitled raceway closed and they had to be returned to Tunkle. The Kingleman was awesome. We had a Retro race scheduled there but a major snow storm caused us to reschedule and the owner wouldn't let us race on a Sunday.

It's very cool a premier event is being held in the dirty south. I've been to many race events in all forms of racing and will say the competition level at this upcoming race will be top notch. Racers who want a good challenge and like having a lot of fun should show up.
Test, test, test, and go test some more.
You're never fast enough!!! 💯

Preparation leads to separation.

Success is never owned but rented, and the rent is due every day.

Way to go Ralph, thanks for putting this together!

Danny's right, if it's anything like the last combo race at The Viper Pit it will be an awesome race. I hope that some of the guys from "way up North" will make it to this one, I know I'll be there for sure!

We will have room for two more from Tennessee if anyone's wants to ride.

The two that are the most popular are the Parma Lola GT and then some like the OS Chevron B16R.  The Parma is very easy to mount.

Coupes will be raced together. You may choose to run any IRRA approved motor. Qualifying times will split the field into the mains.

Ralph,

I'll add this to the Premier Event list when I get back to GA on Sunday.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

what is the race format for this race? qualify into a main, race, and combine laps? or is it how they did the r4 everyone races then the top 16 make it into semis then top 8 into a main?

Stock Car and GT Coupe will qualify, mains will be seeded and the lap totals will be combined for overall results. Can Am and F1 will qualify then mains of 6 will be seeded and 2 move ups will be awarded to the top 2 finishers.
