Not sure that this is the right place for this - but thought that it might be of interest to others as well...

Received an email from AutoWorld...

1:32 & 1:25 Scale Slot Car Kit Sale!

http://www.autoworld... Car Kit&show=5

They have them currently at $14.99/kit!

If this post is in the wrong forum - or inappropriate - please feel free to move/delete.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

The only good parts are the body and motor. Put them on a Parma FCR and you got a car.

Don't do it....... AW should have consulted with racers and tooled a good kit. Yes there models are great but the slot car 1/24 is not what I would even count as a decent whopper. I think if they would have had a sold plastic chassie like carrera or Scalextric they would have sold like hot cakes.... Even with the upgrade kit it needs a lot of help.

As of now today Autoworld does not have any more of those slot cars for sale... all sold out... the one car I did buy from Hobbylink is OK but it does not work as I posted in another post earlier today.

Question: what is a Parma FCR car?

And it works right out of the box!

Add a body, pull trigger, have fun.

Glad they are sold out ... now the temptation is gone :heat:

Boyd, with FCR cars .. they come with offset bushings F&R and have some wheelbase adjustability. The 4.5" cars fit most 1/24-1/25 model bodies.

They work out of the box .. but they work a lot better 'tricked-up' a little.   :D

Never built a AMT/Polar car but would bet an FCR would say bye bye  on any commercial track. :yu:

I'm surprised some enterprising lawyer didn't start a class action suit against AMT, on the grounds that they bilked the consumer, calling them slot cars.

I actually had a couple customers who bought these with the hopes that they would sort of run around my track.

Well, little did they know. LOL.

Maybe they would be all over it if AMT got the rights to using this body in the "slot car"  line-up ... LOL

Boyd,

I grew up racing at Roy Crawley's Phaze III in Farmingdale. Still have a few of his chassis.

The FCR comes in 4 and 4.5 inch wheel base. Between the two w/adjusta bushings you can accommodate just about any body.

I was kinda hopin' AMT would make a slot car out of their 1966 Mustang. I would consider the purchase of one for only nostalgic reasons.

My first slot car was an AMT 1965 Mustang and, it too, wasn't anything to write home about, either. With a top heavy body and a very high c of g, combined with a gear ratio of 20/36, it's only use was as a pace car. It took forever to get it going and forever to stop.

The raceway's "big track" was a 115' reverse image of a king with flat turns except for slight banking of the main curve at the end of the long straight. For a long time the track record was 7.5 seconds and that was FLYIN'!
