Retro South made its first visit to the terrific new SpeedZone Raceway in Peachtree City, GA, on Saturday, April 26, for a great day of Retro racing using IRRA™ rules. Racers from five states were in attendance: AL, FL, GA, TN, and MS.

First class on the program was Stock Car, with ten entries, so a ten-man round-robin format was selected, with two sit-outs.

Concours was won by Bud Greene, with a terrific-looking Bobby Allison Dodge Charger.

Can-Am ultimately saw eighteen cars show up on the tech table, so two nine-man round-robins was the racing format chosen.

Grizzled old pro Gil Gundersen, lately from TN, was the Can-Am concours winner with this fine Ti22 NN, painted by Bill Nolen.

Fourteen F1 cars were entered in the final class of the day and it was decided due to the hour to run a fourteen-man round robin, as many of the racers had long drives to make to return home.

F1 Councours was awarded to Jay Guard and somehow I missed getting a picture of his car, but everyone should know by now it was painted yellow! LOL! A small image of his car can be seen in the podium shot below.

TQ for F1 was Ralph Thorne, with a lap of 4.838 secs.

F1 results

1) Ralph Thorne - 276 laps

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

I want to thank all the staff at Speed Zone PTC for all their hard work. This was their first "big" race, and they did a great job.

A huge thanks also goes out to all the racers who traveled from near and far to come race! Without your support there would be no Retro South, so thank you very much!

Excellent report and photos, Greg!

Special thanks to the staff at SpeedZone and Ralph for doing a great job at this event. Man, what an incredible facility this place is.

Congrats to all of the racers... I had a great time running with the Retro South gang and look forward to seeing everyone at the Viper Pit in June.

ED, RED, RED, ED. My first time racing Retro South. Don't think it will be the last.

Had a great time, tore up some cars as usual. Learned some more about Retro. Hope I can apply it. LOL!!!

Thanks to Ralph and the PTC crew for putting on a great show.  Things went pretty smoothly and race directing by Shawn (I think) was very good, especially so since this was his first big race.

The spread Hillclimb is probably on of the best Hillclimbs I've EVER raced on, and with the Gerding King coming on-line they have will have two super tracks.

This is one of the finest slot racing venues I've ever seen and you should do yourself a favor and make the next race, you won't be disappointed.
