When attaching your front wheels to the axle, what do you do to ensure your front tires will roll straight and without wobble (which eventually results from wear after a few races)?

Is the tire's roll important to you?

Sorry,but that's all I got.

The only other option I can see is a live spinning front axle with the wheels attached. I have seen this done with one wheel free on the axle and the other connected with a setscrew so they can rotate independently.

I use aluminum hub JK fronts and they always spin nice and true.  Just make sure that you clean up the hole with a 3/32 reaner.

If you dont want to use ball bearing fronts the JK work fine. Make sure the axle surface is polished and keep them oiled. They will last a long time.

I've run retro cars with great success running a ball bearing front axle tube with one wheel rotating free on a drill blank axle and the other locked down. The fronts would last until they were too small to use. Since the loose front really only turns on the axle in the turns it does not wear like using both fronts independently. I just cut the crap put of the axle tube between the front uprights leaving about 1/2 dia and could get my frames down to racing weight.

I'm starting to wonder if I should further investigate the idea of using the BB fronts.

Thanks for the ideas.

the new bushed JK alum wheels seem to work fine as well. Loctiting a brass tube in 1/8" fronts and reaming them smooth is better than alum on steel as well....easy to do for 1 " fronts on the hardbodies.

2 bearings would have been sufficient.
With 4 and two tubes separated your going to have binding from chassis flex.

When we talk about bearing fronts we mean the axle is soldered to the chassis and the wheels have the bearings installed in them so the fronts are independent. Those tires are going to fight each other in the corners painted or not.

Well, they work great in my world...they are mounted to the chassis and are independant from each other, 2 bearings would not work, as they would not be independant, and then they would fight each other, and as far as the paint still holding up and is not gripping the track....regards Paul

Beautiful car Paul. :good:   Is that a TT class car?  Resin?

How is the axle assembly attached to the chassis?

off topic:

I missed you and Bob the last time I was at Pelican... 2 weeks ago for the Jalopy class.  Cully won the Main, Bob Hanna was second, the best I could manage was third (on red).  Jalopy is another class where they need to sort out the body rules.

Lots of people run "Grandfathered-in" '39 Chevies that do not conform to the new rules.  I have one that is lowered, but I chose not to run it.  I also have a "killer" '48 Chev, but the rear wheel wells have been opened for tire clearance... again, not technically legal.  So I ran my old beater Plymouth, which is a decent car, just not the fastest.

I don't know if I will make it to Pelican this week.  I will have to see how I feel after my trip to the dentist. :bomb:
