A few pics, to set the table for this wonderful tale...
The story involves one slot racer's magnificant obsession to make whole sets of Formula One cars from various eras of racing, then run entire championship series on replicas of the real circuits.
The racer is Barry Boor, who has been a slot car enthusiast for almost fifty years.
From his website, "I have heard of people who re-run races and obtain the same result as the real Grand Prix. This is NOT what I do. Every race stands as a separate event, and before the first practice lap, I have absolutely no idea what the outcome may be. I have often been told that I must 'cheat' in favour of one driver or another, but, hand-on-heart, I can say that I have never knowingly biased a race in order to produce any particular result. What would be the point? It would take all the excitement out of the racing."
It's a little difficult to grasp the finer details of just how Barry "re-creates" entire races with only one person driving the cars (Barry himself, of course), but the info on how it is done is given on his website if you do a little digging.
Barry says, "Isn't it amazing what some people do for a hobby?" Amazing is certainly an appropriate adjective, but I can think of a lot of other ones that also apply, like stunning, incredible, innovative, fascinating...

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap
