Ordered paint 3 weeks ago, they have in the past taken 2 days.

I need to call those kooks tomorrow.

 

I was wondering if I can use a modern angled pinion gear for this heap?

I'm not in charge, but I'll answer your question.  There are no specific rules disallowing modern parts, but everything is subject to peer review.  Since this isn't a "race", there are no hard and fast rules pertaining to your question.  A brass pinion would satisfy the vintage crowd and it only needs to last a short while.....if you need one, I have brand new 7's and 8's, they could be in your mailbox by Thursday ...

I have straight pinions in steel.

My advice is, "do it".  But Steve Okeefe and dc-65x are running the show.....

My 2 cents worth would be since post protectors aren't allowed because they weren't available in 1966 then by the same logic a tapered pinion wouldn't be allowed either.

Pablo's got it down; no stressing over rules or specs.  Your entry is welcome. 

 

The idea is you do your best to use 1966 technology (parts, materials and design) and come up with something clever and imaginitive (and fast), just like the R&C racers did.
