With Robin William's death today, it took me back to 1979 when Bob Proctor and I drove straight through from Colorado Springs to Buzz-A-Rama for the Nats.  I don't remember listening to much on the trip except for William's LP "Reality-What a Concept". I think we knew every routine by heart by the time we got to Brooklyn, didn't need no stinking sleep like the Beastie Boys, we were laughing all the way.

Revisited that record today. Still the funniest comedy LP ever recorded, IMHO. The world will miss a tremendous talent.

He certainly will be missed, one of the funniest guys on both TV and cinema. I remember first watching him in Mork and Mindy.

Mine too, Pablo. :)

Hilarious film with a total legend of an actor in it... Such a sad loss.

He will definitely be missed.

My daughter's favorite and mine, "Mrs Doubtfire". A super great talent is now silent.

We were at Red Robin's having a burger this afternoon. We had just been talking about alcohol and drugs.

Came home, turned on the PC and saw the news around 6:30 tonight. Williams had bouts with substances. It was a total wake-up call for my daughter. We had sat down and watched Mrs. Doubtfire not long ago.

So sad!

He had the fastest comedic mind I ever saw. I can't imagine what it must have been like following his act in a comedy club.

He made so many others happy, it's sad he couldn't give that gift to himself.

I've been looking online today for a DVD of a Robin Williams concert done in 1986 called, "Robin Williams: Live at the Met." I watched it on a VHS tape and almost 30 years later still recall it as a comedic tour de force the likes of which I've never seen equalled. I laughed so hard I was crying and clutching my sides because they hurt so much.

Someone claimed Robin was the best comedian who ever existed and I wouldn't argue that point at all.

Someone else said the price of genius is very high and I think that is true as well.

RIP, Robin Williams. There will never be another one like you.

The news outlets don't mention that Robin was a part of the PCPA productions on the local college campus here in Santa Maria, California, in 1973.

I'm so baffled but shouldn't be surprised that dark areas kept secret resided in Robin as in each of us to one degree or another. Making laughter on the outside, but cold and chilly inside.  We may not have ever liked Robin had we seen the dark side. It would be too shocking. Great fear of being found out would be depressing enough by itself. I think those who were close to him were the ones who accepted the whole Robin and it didn't matter. BUT to us out here,  it was  the enormous price to pay in maintaining the Hollywood persona that devastated him when the glory years passed.

Be looking for his old movies to show up at WalMart and other outlets in the days and weeks to come. I'll be looking for Patch Adams, Good Will Hunting, and others.

Like all great genius minds, he had his demons and struggled with them. They said recently he had been having bouts of depression and now think it may have been related to the open heart surgery he had in 2009. Doctors are saying now this is a possibility and he should have been advised to seek help as the depression associated with OHS is very real, can be devastating, and can linger for years.

Probably one of the two best comedic minds ever, the other being Robin's own idol and mentor Jonathan Winters. Both were absolute genius at off the cuff improv, but I would have to give Robin the edge in genius. He bought so much laughter to the world, yet could play a serious dramatic role as well as anyone.

Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams, Good Morning Viet Nam, Jumanji, and Hook are my favorites of his movie work. As far as his comedy shows, I'll take any of them over any of the newer comics. Even some of his shorter improvs, such as on "Who's Line is it Anyway", were just fantastic. It was hard for anyone to follow him when he came up with a quick one-liner.

RIP, Robin. The world is a better place for having known you.

As good a tribute to the life of Robin Williams as I have yet seen... and in his own words, to boot.

Very sad. His ability to find humour everywhere around him was magical. His appearance on the Dick Cavett show in Aug of 1980 was an early glimpse into his amazing talent.

Having experienced the devastation that losing a family member to suicide (twice), maybe, and hopefully, his death can be a wake-up call. If you're a parent, use this as someone earlier posted to talk to your kids about drugs and depression. If you know a family member or friend struggling with drugs or depression, help them get help.

I will miss the laughter he put in my heart and the smile on my face. His family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers.

This tribute to Robin Williams by David Lettermen is worth adding to this thread. Don't miss the clips of Robin toward the very end of the video.
