The grid at the start of the six hour grind, which consisted of sixteen 22-1/2 minute heats, or two normal rotations through the lanes.

The winner was Team R-Geo, with a total of 3,976.8 laps.

Second place went to Team Slotblog, with 3,937.2 laps, just 39.6 laps in arrears after six hours of hard racing.

Third place went to Grizzly Racing, who seemingly didn't get their pic taken with their plaques.

Here's the lap counter info. Since the enduro was sixteen heats in length, i.e. the equivalent in heats of two normal races, there are two lap counter panes for this race. The first pane gives data for heats 1 through 8 and the second the data for heats 9 through 16.

This pair of panes shows the best lap times for each team in each heat.

Carsten Grønnemann's terrific LapMaster software gives additional statistical information beside that shown here. The full stats for the 2014 Columbus Classic can be found HERE.

If Team Slotblog had had a decent third-string driver, it would probably have won that race...

I personally like the RE system that spreads out the talent.

That said, I can see how racing on the same team as your friends is more fun.

One of the nice things about the way we do the RE enduro is it gets people together on a team who may not normally do so, and I think it makes us more close-knit as a group. And you can learn a lot having any of the top guys as your team captain.

And it's always fun as the drivers are picked and the teams come together. Nobody knows who will be their teammates until RetroPalooza.

This was a very close race for first place. Team Slotblog held the lead as late as the end of the thirteenth heat.

Congrats to all. Nearly 4,000 laps turned by the leading teams. That's amazing. Fast times were still being run in the sixteenth heat. Way to go Team R-Geo for your victory.

Greg, you should not be talking about your teammate that way. :D

Nice run by Team Slotblog. Especially with the Old Geezer (AKA Cheater) on the team. LOLs...

Gee, thanks for the support, guys...NOT!

Race director Mike MacMasters was ragging on me during the race. He announced that hell must have indeed frozen over because I was turning sub-six-second laps....

I now know how Coleridge's albatross must have felt... LOL!

I thought I heard Mike McM has the teams "organize" themselves because only two people on the planet will race with Butch... just kidding.

As far as Team Slotblog, I've quadruple-checked my extensive dossier of the results of every domestic slot race since 1979, and have concluded Greg isn't a big enough handicap to compensate for Jay and Bobby's talent.

Greg, now that I've paid you the highest compliment I ever have, please check with Jay if that is my bracket in the car you guys ran.

Mike, you must have a short memory...

The highest compliment you ever paid me was at the USRA Nats at Georgia Hobby in 1990.

Though Ray Gardner and I shared the race director's booth for almost all of the event, on the day the Open class was run he had to get some sleep to keep himself from face-planting the keyboard. So he left me to run qualifying. I was terrified, as I'd never done any significant race directing before and had certainly never run qualifying for Opens.

When all was said and done, you walked by the race director's stand to growl at me, "Nice job." That was a warn feeling for a guy who'd only been back in the hobby for a couple of years.

This was when you were so intense that the crowds parted when you walked across the raceway, like the Red Sea did for Moses. Thank goodness Jackie has softened you up since then... LOL!

BTW, Jay confims that it was one of your motor brackets, and the car carried a pair of your BB front wheels, too. He wanted me to say he was going to be buying more of both, but I told him I wouldn't do that...

Greg gave us all hope after Jay jumped off to about a 15-lap lead after the first lane.

Thanks, Greg. :laugh2:  :dance4:  :tease:

Many thanks to the McMaster's family for once again hosting the Six-Hour Enduro. I think a good time was had by all with the long day ending with a great spread of food to wrap the day up.

A special thanks to all the racers who travelled such a long distnace to make the race such a success.

Looking forward to the ORS Series starting shortly.

All we had to do is keep Greg talking the whole stint. Jay pointed out that getting Greg talking while driving was good for at least -2 tenths per lap. :laugh2:
