Although it is a kind of too early to ask the motor rules of the coming Checkpoint Cup in January, 2015, we as Team Retro Tokyo would like to start preparation for the race.

Which motors will be raced for Can-Am & F-1?
Hand-out motors?

If so, when will they be available to the racers, previous days or race days?

We would also like to know the track voltage of the King for Can-Am & F-1.

I hope I will be able to bring the same number of Tokyo racers or more.

Looking forward to seeing & racing with you at BPR.

Good Racing,

Haruki :victory:

     Haruki,

Never too early to ask and as it stands right now the SCRRA is 90 percent certain that the handout motors of the Checkpoint Cups will be a thing of the past in 2015!  All of our recent tests with the new JK Retro Hawk have shown it to be a worthy addition to the legal TSR D3 and Falcon 7 and will be included shortly. So, in all likelihood, the TSR's, Falcon 7's and now the Retro Hawk will be legal motors at the Checkpoint with NO handouts.  An official announcement will be made soon...........

The King Track power is generally about 12.7 volts at the track.

Good Racing also my friend and will see you and all the Cheerio guys in 123 days!!

I'm afraid to ask, but wouldn't it just be easier to make the Hawk 7 legal for the Checkpoint? seems that would take the confusion out of play for legality....

Bryan,

have you tried pressing the shaft of the Hawk 7 to look like a RH? if this can be done then a Hawk 7 can be made to look like a RH with the comm side shaft cut off.

Jeff--the Hawk 7 will NEVER be legal because it is significantly faster and with LESS winds on the arm.  So that won't happen. I think the obvious SIMPLE solution is to NOT ALLOW any cutting of the front Retro Hawk shaft's--then there is no worries about looking to see if it's legal or not.  NO ADVANTAGE to cutting the shaft at all---so why allow it??  Just would greatly simplify the tech inspector's job--as we know that %90 of the motors will be "Retro Hawks" at the Checkpoint.  At least until all the ballistic Falcon's 7's get used up!! :)

    Mike and Tim,

Yes................after a little more thought it seems we need to rethink allowing the cutting of the Hawk Retro end bell shaft.  Since nothing is "official" yet concerning this new motor I'll just delete my earlier post and start something in another thread to explain.  With all the possibilities to dummy up a Hawk 7 shaft it just seems that a simple, "NO CUTTING" rule is probably the best way to go.

So, for right now, anyone with Hawk Retros or getting ready to purchase some, DO NOT CUT THE SHAFT on the endbell side.

For anyone who has Hawk Retros with the shafts ALREADY cut......don't worry....... I'm certain they will be allowed for a while in all the SCRRA monthly races.  :)

It's no big deal.  Sam cut some of his--but the motors are "junk" anyway!!! Not good for racing!!! He's got several motors that have an interesting "jump" in rpm-- at about 11 volts!! I've got two new ones I just broke in--and they do it too!!! Seems like we have some strange motors in the batch we've been trying!!! Just like we thought--these motors are NOT any better than the TSR motors!! There's plenty of JUNK ones in there-- they just last twice as long as the TSRS!!!  :)

When this first came up, I alerted people in the IRRAtm about this possibility of the Hawk 7 being made to be disguised as a Retro Hawk.....    I believe they now have a rule against cutting the shafts, which is fair to everyone..

Neither did I , but now we got them, so we are stuck with the three because everyone drank the kool aid, and now the Retro Hawk is the drink of the day...Will be interesting at the Checkpoint Cup to see how many Falcon 7's or TSR motors show up ? ? ?
