Valiko Motors, based in the Ukraine (I think), has just posted pics of a new Eurosport armature of very interesting design on their Facebook page.

Here's an abstract of the accompanying description:

"Here's a new generation of arms: S-arms (slotted). Those arms come with ceramic paint with slot in the stack. This solution provides much higher revs like short stack (.250") arms while torque remains almost the same as long arms. Those arms are faster and softer to drive. They can be ordered .300" or .285" length stack."

Notable to my eyes are the reduced shaft diameter for 1.5mm bore pinion, the capped comm, and the seriously big wire this arm is wound with!

If nothing else, John H. should find this of interest...

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Pro Slot did that years ago, but for Groups and it was deemed illegal...

I've seen segmented stacks (for lack of a better term) before on RC armatures, Greg... never on slot car arms. I have seen stacks with fiber insulators at various places inside the stack too, and of course the reduced shaft and comm cap as well.

The Eurosports guy chase after all sorts of performance enhancements (or just modifications that change where and when the torque or revs come on) that may seem slight... but every miniscule bit is important at that level.

I have no way of knowing whether this arm will be a "hit", but the craftsmanship is of course wonderful.

Guess we will have to wait until the results from the ISRA Worlds in Latvia are published to see how it fares...

Cool, would do wonders for 16D arms.

We did that on the Trinity stock motors a gazillion years ago. The Trinity Slot Machine.

TonyP:

Do you figure it's history repeating itself or could it be that newer cobalt technology can make it work this time?

Got to admire the need for speed. Those Ukranians got some pretty nice amateur radio antenna analyzers as well.

It worked in R/C. We had the fastest stock class motors pretty much forever. The slotted arm let us do a short stack but keep the wire length at the legal length.

Not sure what it would do for slot car motors.

P, they go out of balance real fast. Everything wiggles around too much on the shaft.

If it had a gap filler of some kind it would be better. CF is really light, I think that would do it.

The R/C motors had that 1/8" shaft that was pretty stiff.

Way back when I remember early slot car motors that had fiber spacers in the stacks. Never really understood what they were for, but this "gapped" stack arm reminded me of that concept.

Also don't know what size the wire is on that arm, but it looks awfully big for this day and age especially when viewed from the perspective of Retro racing.
