This is really cool. A friend of mine makes large chainsaw art. He was making a beauty of an eagle one day. I ask him how he did it, he said you start with a piece of wood and remove everything that doesn't look like an eagle. I made a pine box derby car when I was in the scouts (long time ago) It looked better before I started. Thingie is really looking good. Can't wait to see more. :hi:

Looking good Régis  :good:

Following with interest, always good to see a new Thingie be born.

Will this be a one off or will/can it be used as a Mold to replicate them?

As the rest following with interest,

Greetings from the Vallee Verde, Haute Savoie  :victory:

Egoist!  :beee:

No just kidding, I respect that.

Really starting to take shape now and I like what I see, keep up the good works.

It looks a little bit like my first Thingie mold that needs some TLC,...it is called CosmiC but it is a more simple version as I wanted to have a mold/plug quick to test my vac form machine.

A project that is shelved for a while...

Here it is after a few pulls and me finding out my Vacuum former was far from perfect....

The trick is to use a material not effected by the heat of the hot plastic. And that includes the filler and paint used to make the mold smooth.
Most mold makers never pulled off the original master but used a series of rubber molds to make a solid resin mold to which was very smooth and had no need of filler.
Resin is pretty impervious to heat and will last a long time. One can also add chemicals to the resin in order to make it shrink slightly to account for the thickness of the plastic.
That way even when vacuum forming with .030 thickness plastic, the details will still be clear and the final body size nearly exactly the same as the original master.

Yeah I made mistakes with this one as I used car body filler on plaster to shape it and to harden the outer surface but when the mold got hot it partialy came loose.
Wanted to make a low cost and fast plug..it shows I got what I paid for...did manage to get one proper pull of it.

Thanks for the info Jairus :good:

Very nice, some old school combining with new school.

Love Dynamic stuff but would it not be a bit better to use Brass instead of Aluminum to lower the center of gravity?

Looking forward to the next step :good:
